Sapphire woke to a head start , no light had even started in they sky knowing that Madiline had really cared as if she were her sister . Sapphire had thought she had smelled sea salt but ignored it. She looked to the left and saw the Rocky Mountains big and bold with white caps on top, but she didn't have to pass the mountains . All she needed to do was hitch a ride for $50 dollars. She only had $40 dollars . If I can find at least ten more dollars I'll be able to hitch a ride to the mountains .
She looked to see Madiline curled up in her sleep murmuring things in her sleep. She sighed and decided she will be fine on her own and left in search for money going over how to multiply in her head. She headed towards the city but on the way she stopped on a path and saw something waving in a mud. She stopped to see dollar bill but saw a stream of silvery water leading towards the sunrise. She took the dollar bill and put it quickly in her bag and followed the stream. The stream was lit up as bird flew in her face making her jump. She took out her sword and swooped at it but it had went away and she sheathed . She whipped around.
" She has a sword! Run!" She heard a faint whispering on the breeze behind her as she ran back to her camp quickly. It took longer this time, sea breeze still clung to the air heavily. It never took this long to get somewhere! But she wasn't herself, she wasn't running, she wasn't in the forest, she wasn't really herself . She was staring over a wall and a sudden rush of pain, misery, guilt, and determination swept through her as she woke up from yet another nightmare. She dropped to the ground from her tree as she jumped. She felt dirt beneath her hands and wondered if she would ever escape the constant nightmare, in the dream world and real world. She got up and brushed off, problem solved. She glanced at Madiline and saw her wide awake looking at her as if she were crazy. Sapphire felt blood rush to her head as she blushed and saw Madiline stare the sun up behind her , or herself is the one that she was staring at.
" When are you done with these nightmares? When you are an adult they won't go away if you keep having these." Madiline snorted as she got down from her tree shaking scraps of bark from her hair. Sapphire took out a small piece of mouse and gave it to Madiline feeling surprisingly full.
" I'm full enough, you can have it today." Sapphire murmured holding out for Madiline to take, but she shook her head .
" No, I will only eat half, you have to eat the rest. " Madiline replied cooly a promising look in her eyes as she stared at Sapphire. Sapphire nodded and ate half then gave the rest to Madiline who still looked spooked from eating mice , rabbits, squirrels, and birds. Sapphire realized that Madiline could get sick at anytime, I would have to get every remedy I could to ease it, maybe help, but she couldn't cure it. She would die if she got sick.
Madiline broke her thoughts ," We should probably go on, before they catch up to us again. We don't want a replay of yesterday, do we?" Madiline smirked as she glanced at Sapphire from the side and Sapphire growled.
" I agree, but I am the leader here . Not you." Sapphire said it trying to sound friendly so Madiline would listen to her, but she just smirked and nodded. Sapphire could see the mischief in her eyes knowing how bored she must be she started running very fast keeping constant speed. She saw the mischief die away to excitement as they chased each other instantly having fun. Sapphire sighed missing the days when her mother and father were happy together and they all had played together in there old house.
Sapphire took out her swords and turned around stopping as she heard a voice behind Madiline ,but Madiline hadn't taken notice of it at all. Madiline got out her sword and dagger too seeing what Sapphire was staring at then she looked confused. There were no need for words sense she could just see the question in her eyes. Sapphire shrugged hoping she could make a hand gesture to stay careful. So she had two fingers to her eyes then pointed the two fingers at Madiline, hopping she would get it , and did. Nodding Madiline put her sword away, but not her dagger staying quiet, which Sapphire guessed she was listening for the signal to start running again. Sapphire kicked the ground forward and started running with Madiline right beside her . She smiled , proud of her apprentice, but she didn't seem like she was an apprentice anymore. She still has a lot to learn about her weaknesses, and so do you. Sapphire half wanted to believe it , and half not wanting to. She knew that her apprentice had become more of a younger sister than anything, but knowing that that was her only 'sibling' she had.
