"Katie honey, are you ready? I've got to be at work in twenty." I heard my dad call from downstairs. It was my first day at this new high school in Australia, due to my dad getting a promotion to move us down here. I hated being the new girl, down in Florida it took me forever to get use to the environment. I threw my hair up into a ponytail and grabbed my bookbag skipping down the stairs to meet my dad face to face.
"Can I just stay home forever?" I asked looking up at him with my puppy dog eyes, he chuckled lightly and shook his head.
"No Katie, you've got to go to school honey." He told me, I groaned since that wasn't the answer I wanted to hear.
"But the other kids will make fun of me.." I sighed, he put an arm around me as we both began to walk out of the house.
"You don't know that Katie." My dad scolded me as he locked the front door. I began walking to the car and got into the passenger seat waiting for my dad.
"I have that vibe dad I feel it." I said dramatically as he got into the car to start it and head to the new school I'd be going to.
"Oh Katherine for heaven sakes." My dad signed shaking his head at me. "I know it's tough being the new girl at school, just stay positive, and make some friends." He said putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Alright dad." I mumbled putting on my headphones. I wished my mother was here with me, she had died when I was ten from cancer, that had to be one of the worst days of my life. Losing a mother figure at a young age is hard, because everybody needs a mother.
We had passed the store and gas station and I knew we were close to the school. I wished this car would breakdown, but then again my dad would make me walk and not miss the first day of school. I began to blast my music and lay my head back closing my eyes. It only took ten minutes till we got to the school and I wasn't ready to go in.
My dad had stopped the car as I got out, "Good luck sweetie, I'll see you around four." I nodded and began to walk into the building where it'll either be hell or- nope, it'll just be hell.
I took out my schedule and began to look at my classes, I was already lost not knowing where to go. That's when I bumped into someone with quite the color of hair, he had a piercing on his eyebrow and green eyes that stared down at me.
"I'm so sorry I-"
"No, no, I should've been watching where I was going." He said apologizing, "New around here?" He asked turning his full attention to me now.
"Is it obvious?" I asked shyly with a slight smile. He chuckled.
"Well you've got an American accent and you look lost." He laughed before sticking his hand out for me to shake, "I'm Michael." He introduced himself to me.
"Katie." I replied back shaking his hand.
"So do you need help finding your class?" He asked me and I nodded. He looked at my schedule and his face seemed to brighten up. "It's your lucky year, you're stuck with me in every class." He teased and I smiled feeling relieved I knew someone in every class.
"Thank goodness I'll know someone in every class." I smiled up at him. He seemed eager to get to class now since he grabbed my hand and began to lead me down the hall to first period. I'd keep bumping into people and saying sorry while they gave me snobby looks.
We got to first period and Michael led me to the back of the room and sat down and patted the seat next to him. I sat down and got out all of my stuff and set it on my desk. More people began to come into the class and sit down talking to their own individual friends. One seemed to catch my eyes. Dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes that could make a girl (like me) melt, a smile and jawline that could drive you crazy. I hadn't a clue who he was, but I knew a guy like that was way out of my league.
I turned to Michael who was messing around with his pencils. "Michael." I started to say before he turned around to look at me with two pencils in his mouth.
"I'm a walrus." He laughed, I couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter.
After I had gathered myself I asked Michael my original question, "Who's that guy that all the girls are around?" I asked curiously. Michael already seemed annoyed as he rolled his eyes and groaned.
"Calum Hood, biggest asshole you'll ever meet. He's dating the head cheerleader, Carly Heart. She's a bitch." Michael wasn't afraid to speak his mind and that's what I liked about him, he was truthful and didn't care what people thought of him.
I looked at him and he grinned at me and then quickly look at his girlfriend Carly and began to make out at the door of the classroom. Disgusting. The teacher came in and told us to take our seats, which Calum and his girlfriend Carly did as they took their precious time to sit down. Carly sat in front of me and Calum was in the front by the teachers desk. Go figure.
Class began and Carly turned around to look back at me. "Hey." She whispered back at me, "You're new here aren't you?" She asked giving me her full attention. I nodded trying to ignore her. "You might want to learn what groups to hang out with, Michael isn't one of them." She said and I narrowed my eyebrows at her.
"I'll make sure to stay out of the group you're in then. Thanks." I said to her, she huffed loudly and turned to Michael.
"You already corrupted the new girl!" She shouted in a whisper. Michael turned around as if she wasn't talking to him.
"I know damn well you weren't talking to me." Michael chuckled continuing to do his work.
"Go to hell!" She hissed.
"Hey, I'll meet you there." He winked at her knowing it's anger her. She growled and flipped her hair before turning forward in her seat. "Bitch.." Michael mumbled and I chuckled at his comment.
Carly took this as her opportunity to get me in trouble on the first day, all she did was raise her hand and said, "Miss. Green, the new girl and Michael are distracting me." My mouth dropped at the lies that came out of her mouth.
"Actually Miss. Green, I was helping Katie catch up on what we are currently reviewing for our quiz next week but Carly keeps turning around to run her mouth." Carly gasped at Michael's excuse and the teacher seemed to believe Michael more than her.
"Carly leave them alone and start your review." Miss. Green scolded her. She groaned and began to do her work.
"Thanks." I whispered to Michael, he sent me a wink with a head nod. Maybe my first day at this school won't be as bad as I thought. But I'm only in first period.

"Wow I can't believe Mr. Donald did that!" I laughed once Michael and I stepped out of the chemistry classroom.
"I told you he's very animated when it comes to teaching us." Michael laughed slapping his knee. I couldn't stop laughing either, the fact that he actually stood on the desks and taught.
"Out of my way newbie." I heard someone say before pushing me out of their way knocking me down but thankfully Michael was there and caught me.
"What's your damage Carly?" Michael snapped at her for how rude she was for knocking me down.
"Nothing, what's your damage?" She shot back, Michael wanted to say something before she continued, "You're such a loser Michael, no wonder Calum dropped you for me." She smiled flipping her hair and walking away.
"Let's go." Michael said grabbing my hand and pulling me outside to where our buses were to take us home. I wasn't sure if he rode the same bus I did but I had the feeling he wanted to come to my house. "What bus number are you?" He asked.
"105." I said quietly. We got onto the bus and waited for it to load up to take us home. I never knew Michael and Calum use to be friends, I wonder what happened to make Calum want to chose Carly over Michael. I thought guys always said bros before hoes but then again I could be wrong.
The ride to my house between Michael and I was quiet, other than some people on the bus talking obnoxiously loud. Once we got to my house Michael followed me in and sat on the couch turning on cartoons and of course I joined my new friend.
