I'm hungry... I haven't eaten anything today... well, at least it is lunch. And if it weren't for Mrs. Jude, Cortez and I would still be stuck in the detentions office. I promised to meet up with Mar too. I don't think it would have been good for anyone if she didn't let us out at the time she did.

Cortez though... he's worrying me just a little, that he left so abruptly after we were let out. All he told me was that he had to take care of some things. Before he ran off. I hope it has nothing to do with what we talked about... about his past.

Now that I think about it... do I tell Mar about Cortez? Or about... about her cutting herself. I don't know whether to bring that up or not. Or if I can look at her the same...

I feel worried though... genuinely worried about her... and I don't know what to do about it.

I walked out of the hallway, into the courtyard to cross to the lunch room. Why are there so many people crowded around the door though? It is lunch right?

"The lunch room is closed today! Turns out that it doesn't meet up with 'health codes' so it seems that it'll be closed for a while..."

Our teacher Gordon announced from the front of the doors. Most of the crowd started to act up.

"Now students. Must I ask you to leave?"

Our principle Noel raised her voice. Most of the students dispersed. Not like anyone would really stand up to the principle. She has a record for being the strictest person you will ever meet. As well as being my uncles head of security. So that gives her immunity to some... incidents that she happened to be around. In fact... that worries me, now that I think about it. Oh well. As long as I can avoid her...

I felt a soft breeze blow past. I looked at the sky. It feels a little colder every day. Guess I should expect that though. It has always gotten this cold around this time of year...

"H-hello Joseph..."

I heard a meek voice call from behind me. I turned around to see Mar. She seems a little tired.

"Hey Mar... How was class?"

Mar stayed silent.

"S-sorry I didn't mean to offend you..."

Mar looked at me.

"No... It's okay. Class was good..."

Mar and I only stared at each other. This is awkward...

I know!

"How about we go eat lunch somewhere?"

Mar held up a small box.

"I... brought my own lunch..."

"Oh... then uh..."

"We could share it, if you want to..."

Mar looks embarrassed. She's blushing.

I can't refuse. Besides. I think I will go hungry if I do...

"If it's alright with you, then sure, let's share."

Mar smiled, turned around and started to walk towards the patch of trees next to the building. I think she wants me to follow her.

I walked after her and stopped as she sat down on the soft grass. I sat down next to her.

"I like sitting here..."

Mar said shyly.

"I can see why."

This part of the courtyard is actually pretty nice...

Mar opened the box and pulled out two sandwiches. Two? I think she wanted me to eat lunch with her.

"Thank you Mar."

Mar blushed again and handed me my sandwich. As I grabbed mine, she bit down on hers.

I remembered what Cortez told me about her. I guess I just couldn't forget...

"Mar..."

Mar looked at me.

"Why do you wear sweaters?"

"I just like them..."

"You sure? There- no. Never mind. Forget I asked."

Mar looked at me confused.

I am too. Well, at any rate... I can't just ask her that. Not now at least... I just want to stay here and talk with her. I just feel that way.

"Joseph... do you think... I'm cute?"

Mar? Did I just hear that right?

I looked at her. She glared shyly at me with anticipation.

"You know..." I started, as Mar looked down, "I think you're the cutest girl I've ever met."

Mars face lit up and she tried to hide a smile.

Both of us stared at each other awkwardly again. I noticed a small piece of hair peak out from under her beanie.

"You know Mar. Why don't you take off that beanie?"

Mar held onto her cap and pulled down.

"I... I'd rather not..."

"Just try it. What have do you have to be afraid of."

"W-well... what if people... don't like my hair?"

I scooted close to her and held my hands over hers. Her hands feel soft... My heart started to speed up again. As if reaction I took my hands off of hers and put then onto my lap. I started to blush...

"That's silly Mar... but, I won't force you. If you are happy then I will be."

Mar blushed, but looked at me with a little more confidence.

Slowly she took off her beanie to reveal her short golden-brown hair. She looked away from me and tried to scoot away. Her hair really complements her... A small patch hanging just above her eyes.

"You look even cuter with your hair, Mar."

I found myself mutter out.

Mar looked at me surprised.

"Y-you mean that?"

"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?"

*Thadump, Thadump!*

My heartbeat started to pick up.

I slowly moved my hand next to hers. Mar didn't shy back like she did before. I think now might be the right time to ask about a date. How did that come into my mind? I don't know. But, I feel like I should. It feels... right.

*Thadump, Thadump, Thadump!*

My heart feels like it's going to pop...

"M-Mar. You know... now that were... um... boyfriend and girlfriend... w-why don't we, um... why don't we go on a date?"

Mar smiled.

Softly she said

"I... I would love to."
