Chapter 31

     Hayes and I were walking home. We reached to the street and that's when I went my way and he went his way. Once I arrived home, my mom was there. With Michael. I went upstairs and used my computer. "Fuck." I said to myself. I had forgotten I had homework. I started homework and got a phone call from Addie. I answered.

Phone Convo
A- Jane, I have something to tell you. It's about Hayes.
J- What is it?
A- I heard him talking on the phone about something at lunch tomorrow they're gonna do something to you. Hayes is gonna invite you to his table and then Stacey will pour all her lunch at you.
J- That son of a bitch.
End of phone convo

I was furious. To think I was actually giving him another chance.

I finished doing my homework and decided to pick out my clothes for tomorrow. I picked out a sunflower halter with high waisted jeans and vans.

I heard a familiar voice inside my house I peeked through my room and saw Hayes. I closed the door locked it and fixed my hair. Yes I know what you're thinking, you don't like him. It's an I kinda do and I kinda don't type of like him. I unlocked the door and just laid on my bed with my phone.

Then I heard my door open. "Hello Jane." He said. "Hello Benjamin." I said. "You're pissed. What's wrong?" He asked. "Nothing I guess you'll find out tomorrow." I said. "What are you talking about?" He asked. "Hayes you know exactly what I'm talking about." I said. "I don't I really don't!- Oh. Wait how'd you find out?" He said. "The truth always comes out." I said. "Look, it's because of Stacey. She's my girlfr-." He said. "Leave." I said. "What?" "I said leave is do I need to spell it out?" I responded. "Jane, wait, I love you." He said. "Hayes!! You have to make a decision. It's whether me or Stacey." I said. "You're making me pick?" He asked. "Yes. I am." I said. He didn't respond. He just left out the door.

Two Days later at school
"Hey Jane!" Ally came up to me. "Hey Ally." I said. "Guess what's coming up! In 3 days to be specific." She said. "The Spring Formal." I said. "The Spr-. How'd you know?" She said. "You've been talking about it the past two days." I said. "Well. Do you have a date?" She asked. "No cause I'm not going." I said. "Jane. You have to come. I know Hayes is obviously going with Stacey even if he hasn't asked her out but if Hayes goes with Stacey, that's still not a reason to not go to the dance. So, today after school why don't we go to the mall and see what dresses we can buy." She said. "Whatever." I said as I went to Home Ec.

I arrived at Home Ec and sat at my table. My table only had 1 other girl and 3 boys. We were waiting for the teacher to come so in the meantime we talked. That's when I felt a paper on my hand. So I read it.

'This is a pretty shitty way to ask, but
may you do me the favor and going to the Spring Fling with me? ❑ yes ❑no'

I didn't know what to pick. Sooo, being my typical self, I made a box that said 'I'll think about it' and checked it and afterwards giving it to him.

I saw his face change so I whispered "We should hang out and get to know each other." "Meet me at Starbucks after school at 6:30." He whispered back. "Got it." I responded.
