Raman's POV

I looked around me, I was happy with my decision of choosing to take a walk in the park. I looked around me the atmosphere was peaceful calming. This was one of my favorite ways of calming down, taking a walk at the park. I sat down on the swing; lightly I swayed back and forth. All around me there were families out together, sending constant reminders that I was all alone in a foreign country. I was homesick; I missed everything about home. I missed mumma's parathas, her samosas, her laugh; especially her comforting hugs which could transform my mood instantly. Without realizing I was deep in thought, my eyebrows were furrowed and my forehead was creased. There had to be something to get my homesickness away. But what? I had to literally search ever inch of my brain until I came up with a solution. Why don't I try and volunteer at the local orphanage that I saw on the way here. Besides, the one thing that Zee TV taught me was that the world was my family. So I'm never really alone. While I was mentally debating, my feet decided to have a mind of their own. I walked for about five minutes before I reached the orphanage. It had a sign that read

Help Wanted, Volunteers Are NEEDED

After I read the sign I knocked on the door. Here goes nothing Raman, I took a deep breath before the door opened. There was an elderly woman in a salwaar kameez that had her hair in a white bun.

"Hello dear, how may I help you." She said in her thick Indian accent.

"Actually, I saw the sign. So I came to volunteer."

"Well what are you waiting for miss, come on in." She opened the door wider and moved aside. So, I entered the orphanage. My nostrils were filled with the scent of Indian food, which brought back the memories of home. She led me through the living room, where a couple of kids were playing. They stood up and they stood up in a circle around her.

"Dadi, when will the food be ready." A little girl around the age of five asked.

"Not until a while, I still have to prepare the food."

"Okay" she replied and she continued playing with her doll.

"Everyone this is.." she looked at me.

"Raman." I said.

"Indian?" she asked, I replied with a yes. She smiled,

"It's been a while since I've met an Indian in England. You're not from her are you?"

"No, I'm from America. I'm here for college, and it doesn't start until next week so I decided to volunteer."

"Are you good with kids."

"I'm excellent with kids" I replied, I'm not lying whenever guests come over it's my job to entertain the kids. You'll never hear a kid think the word bored when they're in my presence.

"Great why don't you watch these kids, it'll be more than enough help." I nodded and I walked back towards the kids. But, I walked back and I asked if I could take them to the park and she replied with a yes, and she turned back to cooking. I turned back to the kids and asked if they wanted to go to the park and they replied with a yes. To the park!
