I Could Never Forget Us

Chapter 11

--- Addy's POV ---

When we got back from visiting Daniel it was about 8pm and I was starving, it seemed like days since we'd eaten lunch when in reality it had only been a couple of hours. I kicked my shoes off and left them in the hallway and went into the kitchen where Rian, Alex, Jack and Zack were. Rian was cooking while the other three sat at the table talking.

'Hey guys' I greeted everyone

'Did you have a nice day?' Jack asked

'Yeah it was so good seeing Daniel and Leah' I nodded 'They're thinking about trying for a baby soon'

'Wow that's awesome' he smiled

Lucas stood behind me silently, he was still kind of uncomfortable around everyone. 

'Zack you haven't met Lucas yet' I pulled Lucas to stand beside me

'No I haven't' he shook Lucas' hand 'Nice to meet you man'

'You too' Lucas said politely 

'It's good to know Addy's got someone looking after her in LA' Zack winked at me

'Adeline's quite sensible she doesn't take much looking after' Lucas shrugged

The way he pointedly said my full name as if he was correcting Zack made frowns cross Jack and Zack's faces for a second and Alex shot him a glare. I wasn't sure if I was upset about what Lucas had said, it felt almost like he didn't care or didn't like the idea of looking after me, but I ignored it.

'You two got back just in time dinner will be ready in a few seconds' Rian said over his shoulder

'I'm starving' I groaned

There were three seats left at the table, one next to Alex, one opposite Alex and one next to Zack.  Remembering the tension between Alex and Lucas that morning, I let him sit beside Zack and then sat myself opposite Alex. Zack and Lucas absorbed themselves happily in conversation and I sighed, relieved that they weren't just ignoring him. 

'This is stir fry so just help yourself' Rian set a big dish down in the middle of the table

'Wow this looks great' I said  spooning some onto my plate 'I didn't know you could cook'

'Well Alex and Jack burn everything and Zack's too lazy so I had to step into the role of chef or we'd all starve' Rian laughed

'I don't burn everything' Jack pouted

'Jack you can't even cook an egg' Rian shot back

'Whatever' he rolled his eyes

I went to cross my legs under the table and accidentally hit someone with my foot really hard.

'Shit' Alex whinced and cursed quietly

'I'm so sorry' I apologised looking down at my plate in embarrassment when I realised I'd just kicked Alex

'It's fine' he mumbled

Everyone else had gone quiet and had witnessed what had just happened. Luckily Jack saved the day by diverting the attention away from Alex and me and towards his new t shirt. It was a poor attempt to be honest but it worked. I sat stiffly for the rest of the meal, not wanting to hurt anyone else, and just listened to the conversation going on around me. Once we'd all finished eating we all went through to the living room to watch TV, nobody had plans so it was nice to all be together.

'Addy look Finding Nemo's on' Jack had already sat down and was flicking through the channels

'Please no I think I know the dialogue to that film' Rian groaned and sat next to him
