Dear diary,
Today, Chemistry sir was sick. The wonder! He was sick. We've never seen him sick before. He came up to the blackboard and started speaking. His voice normally sounds like nails scratching off a blackboard but today it was even horrid. Oh god. And you would think he would sit down and rest his voice, but no. He spent the first fifteen minutes croaking about Pi and Sigma Bonds. Everyone was busy in trying to avoid letting their ears bleed than listen to his sickening explanation of bonds no one cared of. There is only one bond in the world that people cared about - James Bond. Okay, that was a sick attempt at a joke.
Anyway, back to the topic, if he screams so loud each day, sick is the only thing he's gonna get. Robin was laughing silently, and Andrew was gripping his pen hardly because of his voice. Soon, his voice broke and everyone, including myself, were both shocked and were trying to sneak our giggles. He was embarrassed and retreated to a seat in the corner of the class. He didn't even assign us work! We had half an hour to ourselves! This was a miracle in our strict brain-washing school.
Robin, couldn't stop laughing, as usual. Andrew cracked a joke on sir and we started howling with laughter. Andrew is the most epic motherfucker I've met. 100%.
We were minding our own business, laughing, when one of the bitches commented on us, "Why do they laugh like mentally retarded pigs, don't they have any other work?"
Tom (miraculously) replied quickly by saying, "At least we don't put links on everyone in the grade."
Usually, Tom avoids picking up fights with people, unlike us, and this was the first time he replied to them.
One of the other bitches replied by saying, "Fine, we do put links. But at least we don't flirt with every other random girl on the street like one of your members do."
They started laughing at her joke, and the one who remarked was looking at me.
She was talking about me.
That bitch.
Andrew, who noticed this too, including my silence, got so pissed that he stood up, and almost all eyes were on us. Except sir's, whose were staring at his phone.
"Haha, I find it surprising that you're talking about one of our members "flirting" with every random girl on the street when one of your members "proposes" to every guy she sees!"
That was enough to shut them down. No one knew what he was talking about, except the girl who he was talking about. Her secret was out.
"Come on, Seb," He nudged me and dragged me out of the class. Just as we were closing the door, one of the girls finally said, "Bunch of fucking playboys. Especially Andrew," She was the same girl who Andrew commented on.
"Look who's talking."
That wasn't me, nor was it Andrew. It was Veronica. They shut up, and we went out. I couldn't believe it.
Veronica just risked her friendship with them for us, a pair of nobodies. Who meant absolutely nothing to her. Something flashed in Andrew's eyes, but it wasn't gratitude. We sat on the stairs and Andrew let out a sigh.
"Seb, they're a bunch of losers, alright? They will end up nowhere in life. We know the truth, you're not a playboy, fuck boy, whatever bullshit it is. Okay?"
I nodded. But was that the reputation I had? As a fuck boy? What did I do? I only talk to one to two girls properly. I don't flirt. I've had maybe one or two crushes in this school. Was I so bad?
"Bro, chill. Don't let their words get to you."
I nodded and looked into the distance. We sat in silence. I didn't mind the silence.
"But... don't you think it's weird Veronica defended us?" I finally said, and Andrew's far off look was back again. But he was listening. I went on. "We haven't done anything to her, and she defended us. She had no reason to come on our side, but she did! She fucking did! She went against all odds and defended us. Us. A pair of shits."
The last comment usually would've made him laugh or at least smirk, but he had a faraway look in his eyes. No reaction, other than a momentary nod. I've never seen him so... sad, lost, but on the stairs, today, I did. And it's weird.
He didn't speak much and Veronica didn't even look at us when we went back to class. Chemistry sir was gone, and I prayed he wouldn't complain that we left class without permission. But how could he complain? He lost his voice.
Although the comments still stung after Andrew's reassuring words, I couldn't get Veronica out of my mind. Why did she defend us, when she had no reason to?
Or, did she have a reason?S.
