(Nicole's p.o.v)
Jessa had called me during lunch, saying how she wouldn't be able to pick me up from school, due to a back up at the office. So I was forced to ride the bus home. I've never ridden on a bus before, so it was kind of awkward trying to find a seat, and I just ended up sitting alone.
Finally after 25 minutes the bus stopped in front of the gravel road, known as my driveway.
"Thanks." I say, as I walk past the driver and down the stairs.
I felt bad that she had to drive and extra 15 minutes just to get me home. I'm not gonna give her a hard time this year. As for the rest of the teachers, they don't know what's coming. Today was just the tip of the iceberg.
I stopped at the mailbox, as the bus drove away, and pulled everything out.
Let's see here. Bill, invitation, bank statement, bill, ad, magazine, bill, and a package. Hmm, I wonder who that's for.
I continued down the long driveway, until I noticed a car sitting in the drive-way. That little.
Jessa wasn't running late at the office, she was relaxing at home. I could have been home 10 minutes earlier.
I walk in, slamming the door behind, letting everyone know I was home. Apparently I didn't slam it hard enough, because the only person that came to greet me was Zeus, and he's a dog.
"Hey bud!" He licked my face. "Oh, I missed you too, but don't expect any licks back." I laughed as he tackled me to the ground and just kind of laid on top of me. "Can't. Breath. Zeus." Zeus finally got off when he heard footsteps coming downstairs.
"Hello darling. How was school?" Tom took my bag and hung it up, while I plopped down on the couch.
"Fine. We didn't get any homework which is good. I have all my classes with at least Sam, Eric, or Spencer. And my math teacher already thinks that I should be doing Honors Geometry."
"Maybe you should've." Tom suggested.
"Nah. They got homework today."
There was a moment of silence.
"So did anyone call." I ask.
"Nope, neither Luke or the director. But I'm sure they'll call soon." He tries to reassure me.
"They better, cause this is driving me nuts." I looked around. "Where's mom by the way? I saw her car in the driveway. She told me she couldn't pick me up from school, so I took the bus."
"Oh, she's taking a nap. She wasn't feeling very well, so she left work early and came home."
Why didn't she just tell me that. I would've understood, rather than her lying to me. There was another moment of silence, before Tom spoke again.
"How about we go for a trail ride? It will help take your mind off things."
"Okay." I agree and head out to the barn with him.
We currently have three horses. One for me, one fore Tom, and one for Jessa. Tom's horse is a dappled gray thoroughbred named Arthur, but his racing name is Wind Breaker. So far he's won three races out of the five he's competed in. But with a little more training from me, he'll be the next Secretariat.
Jessa's horse is a small, palomino paint named Freja. I plan on doing more eventing and jumping with her, since her stature is more built for it. We have a big show coming up pretty soon, it will be her first show.
Then there's my horse Airimis. Yes it's the same Airimis from the orphanage. After I was adopted, a new, much nicer lady, took over the orphanage. I guess with me gone, Miss Caroline thought it was no longer worth working there. Any way, she fixed up the place and changed a couple of things. One of the things was that she turned the barn into more living space for the girls, that way each girl could have their own room. But in order to do that she had to get rid of the horses. She ended up selling them to different families, but she saved Airimis. Apparently some of my sisters that were left, told her about our relationship, and she decided to just give him to me for my birthday.
