Chapter 47
Normal POV
All of team Natsu were gathered at a nearby hotel that wasn't that far from the forest. They were surrounding the bed that was being occupied by an unconscious blonde. All eyes were pinned on her, each pair held worry and hope. They are worrying for the girl's health and at the same time, hoping that she'll be all right.
After 2 hours of non-stop healing, Wendy finally sighed in relief as she withdrew her hands. She wiped off the beads of sweat that was forming at her forehead before completely facing her anticipitating teammates. She smiled at them which calmed her team.
"When is she going to wake up?" The rosy haired fire dragonslayer asked for what like the hundredth time as he run a hand through his unruly hair. An impatient sigh escaped his lips while gazing down at the peacefully sleeping blonde. He was sitting on a chair beside the Celestial Mage's bed.
"I don't know, Natsu-san. It all depends on her now. Her injury was deep. But thankfully it didn't hit any major organs or veins. Also, she lost a lot of blood. Don't worry, though. She's fine now. I managed to heal her wound and maintain her vital statistics stable. Most probably, the reason why she's still sleeping now is because she used up a large amount of magic when she fought that man." The little dragonslayer explained, the others listening let out a breath of relief as they smiled down at their little doctor.
"You did well, Wendy. Thank you." Erza said as she patted the girl's head, who in return blushed.
"What are we going to do after this? Clearly, there's someone after Lucy. A powerful one at that. We can't just let this go and act like nothing happened, right?" The raven haired ice mage asked as he crossed his arms infront of his chest.
"Of course, we can't. That guy is powerful and he also stated that he'll come back for her. All we can do now is wait for her to wake up then return to the guild. We will discuss our plan and next move there. We just have to prepare for the worse, is all." The requip mage replied, sighing while running her fingers through her red locks.
"Guess that's the most logical thing to do right now." The white cat stated as she nodded her head slightly.
A deep silence ensued right after. No one knew what to say next. All that can be heard was the blonde's deep breathing and noises from outside the room and hotel.
"That guy.." all eyes were diverted to Natsu who spoke out of nowhere, breaking the peaceful atmosphere.
"He mentioned something about Lucy being some kind of Star Goddess or Heir to the Dragon Throne. I can't seem to shrug off the feeling that he might be telling the truth or part of it is actually true." The pink haired dragonslayer said while rubbing his sweaty palms together. There was a certain look of hurt and grief on his eyes which made everyone look away from him. They too, are as curious and worried about their Celestial Mage.
"Only Lucy can answer that question, Flamebrain. But what will you do if ever it is true?" The ice mage hesitatingly asked, debating to himself whether he asked the right question or not.
"Honestly, i don't know. Normally, i would feel hurt and betrayed. But this is Lucy we're talking about. I can't hate her even if i wanted to. She's too precious." The pyro said, tearing his eyes off his team to look somewhere else. He did so just to hide the slightly pink blush on his face. He don't know why, but he suddenly felt hot.
An awkward atmosphere enveloped the room. Each one was shocked, more on amused on what their dense fire dragonslayer teammate had said. They were not expecting this from him.
"Why?" Another voice resurfaced but it wasn't Natsu who spoke this time. All eyes fell on a half conscious blonde who was looking out of the window. She's awake. Well, half awake. Clearly, using a lot of magic power and being stabbed at the same time took a lot from her. She's still tired, obviously. But that didn't stop her from hearing their conversation. As a matter of fact, she heard everything. Every sentence and word. She also heard how Natsu proclaimed on not hating her despite the fact that she lied and ruined their trust. She felt guilty. Guiltier, actually.
"Lucy! Your aw-"
"That guy's telling the truth. I'am the next Star Goddess and heir to the Dragon Throne. I'm indeed what he claims to be. But i swear, i never meant any of this to happen! I wanted to tell you the truth. I needed to tell you the truth. But what can i say? I'm a stubborn girl. I knew that once i opened my mouth and tell you everything there will be no turning back. You guys will get involved. And i don't want that. This is my problem. And i was hoping to solve it myself. But due to some unexpected circumstances, my plan was unwillingly changed. As a matter of fact, i was going to tell you guys everything once we get back. But i guess that's not the case anymore." The blonde explained, her voice was soft and little. She shifted to her side, covering half of her face with the white blanket that was draped over her body. She was scared. Afraid even.
"Problem? Circumstances?" The requip mage asked, attempting to pry more information from her but careful not to ask the wrong question.
"Yeah. About 3 years from now, Zeref will rise and shall attempt to take over not just our world, but also the neighboring realms. I'm appointed to defeat him. To stop him. But i'm afraid i can't do it all on my own. Zeref has minions, allies. I'm sure of it. I need help. But i'm just too prideful and stubborn to ask.." the blonde sobbed. She curled into a ball under the blanket while quietly whimpering.
"Did you... Did you honestly think we won't help you?" Natsu managed to choke out, his fist turning white due to his clenching. He doesn't know what to feel right now. Truth be told, he's upset. Offended even. He can't believe that his Lucy would seriously doubt them. HIM.
"That's t-the problem. I know y-you guys would help me! You'll fight alongside m-me no matter what. And that's w-what i'm fearing about. This is war, N-Natsu. I'm just afraid to lose anyone. As i said before, i can't take it i-if someone close t-to me d-dies. I'm scared."
"So, is that an excuse to be selfish? Have you ever thought of OUR feelings? What would we feel if ever you die and we can't do anything about it? We'll feel hopeless! We'll carry on the guilt of not being able to help you! Save you! Can't you see, Lucy?! We care for you so much! Haven't you realized that yet?!" The pyro snapped, his expression hardening and turning cold. But it immediately softened when he smelt fresh salty tears. He suddenly felt guilty. Of course, he was upset. But he never meant to make her cry. He was just caught up with the moment.
"Look, Lucy. I'm sorry for snapping. I'm just a little upset." The guilty dragonslayer confessed, rubbing the back of his neck. Though, he wasn't expecting a soft giggle from the blonde. He watched as Lucy shifted and faced his side. She peaked from the blanket and offered him a kind and sincere smile, this however took him by surprise. Her pale face was still drenched with tears, eyes red and puffy but she acted like she didn't care.
"It's alright. Thank you, N-Natsu."
"For what? For making you cry?" The summoning mage shook her head and once again offered him a radiant smile.
"For giving me such a wonderful family. For bringing me to Fairy Tail."
