I woke up tired and groggy, having slept horrible last night. I didn't dream of the blue eyed man again but I did toss and turn all night. The sun filtered through my sliding door and lit up my room, landing directly on my bed. I threw the covers off and sat up, rubbing my eyes with my fists. I walked to the balcony and took my cigarettes from the desk, picking up the silver lighter from the floor where I dropped it the night before. It was about eleven o'clock and the clouds had dissappeared, a slight breeze blowing from the east. I lit my cigarette and sat on the threshold of the door, dragging slowly and blowing out my smoke in rings. I glanced at the driveway and saw my mother's car was gone. Probably at work, I thought as I smoked. I watched two small birds chase each other through the trees and chirping over the sounds of the cars. I crushed my cigarette and got up, walking out my room and downstairs to make some coffee. I turned on the kettle before heading back to my room to get my phone. I unlocked it and saw my notifications. 2 New Messages.
Deela: Come fetch me at 13:00. And bring food!
Typical Deela, ordering me around even though she's two heads shorter than me and then demanding food. The girl was small but she ate like an elephant. I quickly replied.
Say please next time and I'll see if I'll grace you with my edibles.
After that sent, I went into the other message.
Mom: went to work, won't be home late, you going out?
I replied: Enjoy, going shopping with Deela.
As that sent, I went downstairs to finish the coffee, making it the way I like it: milk first, everything else after. Once that was finished, I took my mug and went to get ready. When I got to my room, I set my mug on the desk and took the clothes I set out on the setee. I pulled the white dress over my head and tightly wound the brown belt around my waist, giving me an hourglass look. I decided to wear my hair up, putting it in an old fashioned beehive with a small bow around it. I did my makeup and drank my coffee before slipping on white ballet flats and rubbing lotion on my legs. After I had finished, I glanced at the clock on my phone. 12:02pm. Still another hour to kill. I tidied up my room a bit before going downstairs and doing a load of washing, humming made up tunes as I went along. When I had finished, it was 12:36 so I decided to leave so I could stop at the shop and draw money and buy cigarettes and pre-shopping snacks. I bought a chocolate and a pie for Deela and a Coke and bag of sour worms for me. When I had paid, I left to pick up Deela. I messaged her to say I was on my way and I drove off, playing golden oldies from my radio."Oooh, this is so pretty! " Deela said as she picked up a light blue dress decorated with white daisies.
"That is cute, " I said as I picked up a grey and black crop top with silver sequins on the shoulders. I added it to my armful of clothing, including two summer tops for Nicola. Deela's arms were overflowing and her hands held three pairs of shoes. Once we had picked out and tried on all our clothes, we went to pay.
"So where do you want to go for lunch?" she asked as she swiped her card. Trust Deela to always be hungry.
"How about Café De Rose?" I suggested. The food there was always exceptional and the coffee even better.
"Yes, I love that place!" she said as she took her bags. We walked out the store and made our way to the café, our arms linked.
"Go get us a table, I'm going to the bathroom quickly, " I said as I left my bags with her and walked towards the bathrooms. As I walked, I passed a few students from the school, all with arms full. Suddenly, I froze. In front of me, by the fountain, stood the man from my dreams. His black hair was just by his waist and I could see the glow of his blue eyes from where I stood. I sat alone, his hand trailing lazily through the water. I swallowed hard and tried to tear my eyes away. Then he's were holding my eyes captive. We stared at each other for a while and his mouth curved into a smile. He was wearing handsome clothes, a black dress pants and a white button down shirt, on his hands were silver rings and a woven bracelet. He started to get up, but before he could step any further, I ran quickly away. By the time I reached the café, I was out of breath. Not from running but from shock. There he was, on flesh and blood, the man from my dream. He seemed younger though, he's face not as strained as it had been in the dream.
