Chapter 47 - Simple Fun part 2
After I went to the check cashing place to get my paycheck cashed, since I had no bank account yet, the girls and I piled in Carmela's car while Anthony followed in his own and we made our way to lunch. We ended up at this Tuscan bistro that was about five minutes down the road from one of Philly's shopping malls. I had to conceal my smile as Carmela parked and we all got out and headed to the entrance of the restaurant.
The place was very nice, but in a warm rustic type of way. The floors were a mixture of warm slate closers and the walls were covered in a simple cream color with a few accent walls made up of brown and red brick. The light fixtures were made of dark brass and the tables were made of light distressed wood.
The waiter took us to the outside of the restaurant that held a large, covered balcony. There were even more tables littered along it with light table clothes covering the tops. The covering of the balcony had small lanterns hanging from it, which gave the area an almost romantic feel.
We were seated almost in the middle of the outer area and immediately ordered drinks. Not knowing the menu prices just yet, I opted for water with lemon and lime, which got me a few laughs from around the table.
Once our drinks had arrived and we'd had time to look over the menu, everyone was ready to order. Carmela had gotten pasta with dried tomatoes and sausage dish, Ryder, a grilled salmon dish and Anthony had decided on a classic lasagna entrée. It took me awhile to decide on just what I wanted but after a little bit more searching I went with a basic chicken and bacon penne with a blue cheese wedge salad on the side, mostly because those were a few of the cheapest things on the menu.
Our conversation was light and fun and no one brought up anything that had happened the night before, which I was grateful for. After our meal we drove the few minutes it took to get down the road to the movie theater. It was a Saturday afternoon so the parking lot wasn't that packed. Once we Carmela found a parking spot right beside Anthony's car, we rushed to the ticket line inside to see what movies we were in time for.
After a little debating and a lot of moaning and groaning from Anthony saying he refused to see a romantic comedy, we all agreed on an action drama. The tickets weren't as expensive as I thought they would be but Ryder said it was because we were going to an afternoon showing instead of an evening one. I was more than happy with that especially because I really didn't feel like paying twelve to fifteen dollars for a movie ticket.
We made it inside the theater with just enough time to get a few snacks from the concession stands. I really wasn't hungry seeing as we just got done eating only minutes before, but Anthony and Carmela both argued that it wasn't the same experience unless you got junk food and popcorn too. So conceding, noticing the high prices of food and drinks, I silently refused to pay more than ten dollars for everything. I got a small drink and an even smaller pack of chocolate before following everyone in to theater seven.
