Chapter 38 (week 4 part 1)
Amelia's POV
It's been two days since I showed up at Carmela's place and to be honest I wouldn't be able to tell the difference even if I'd been here longer, seeing as I haven't actually slept since I'd gotten here.
My minds been on overload since the moment I ran out the front doors of the Sullivan's estate and it hasn't stopped swarming with thoughts of the brothers or their betrayal. And I admit I've tried to get the brothers out of my head more than once since I've been hauled up in Carmela's loft, but the outcome always seemed to be the same. I'd get my mind off the Sullivan's for a few moments, push every thought of what they did and how they acted towards me to the back of my mind, only then to make room for more unwanted thoughts of another kind; thoughts of my failed life and the unmistaken familiar feeling of loneliness.
The only good thing that's happened so far is that I made it through the entire weekend without incident. There were no signs of the brothers not even once and I hadn't had another breakdown since I talked to Carmela. As a matter of fact she's the only reason I haven't completely lost my sanity.
Carmela has been a heaven sent since the moment she offered to let me stay with her. From what she told me, Jayden and Kendall have both been calling her non-stop since I fled from the estate wanting to talk to me, but she has kept them at bay. Even more, she's been a great-unexpected friend to talk to these past few days. With Carmela being around, I've had a chance to get myself together, at least somewhat, emotionally and mentally and I've thanked her for that numerous times already.
Lifting up into a sitting position on Carmela's sectional, I glanced over towards the big open windows; surprised to be catching a small glimpse of the sun setting for the day. It was almost time for The Den to open its doors for the night and Carmela was upstairs getting ready.
I've learned a few things about Carmela's club in the two days that I've been staying with her and one of those things was that The Den never opens before nine O'clock, but when it does open it is packed every night with vampire and almost as many willing humans; which I still couldn't quite understand.
Hearing the clacking of high-heeled boots echoing against the wooden steps leading towards Carmela's room, I quickly turned my head in that direction. Carmela was rushing down the stairs in said boots that were paired with some black faux leather leggings and a white and black designed peplum tank. Her make up was done lightly, but her lips were stained a bold red while her dark hair was curled in soft waves. She didn't even look like she was trying, but she knew how to wear her confidence well.
Carmela surprised me when she stopped to lean against the back edge of the sofa, "So I have a question," she began, then paused as if she was waiting for me to respond back first, so I did, "Okay..." I said in return not knowing where the conversation was headed.
"What are you going to do with yourself for the night?" she asked only to then continue without waiting for me to answer, "Actually, what are you going to do with yourself for the next week or month even?"
Her blunt question stunned me for a moment, making my eyes go wide in response. It wasn't that I was shocked at her question or the way she asked it, but rather I didn't know how to answer her. Because before this moment I hadn't even thought about what I was going to do with myself now that I was out from under the Sullivan's and their ridiculous contract.
