Chapter 34- Week 3 Part 3

Cole was silent for a few moments, moments that felt like an eternity, as he stared around the room, seeming to be deciding whether or not to tell the truth or blow up at everyone in anger. As for me, I was now on the edge of my seat, frantically looking around at everyone in the room once again, trying to see something… anything in any one of their eyes that would give me even the littlest of hints as to what Cole was about to say.

My panicked mind was in overdrive, letting my imagination get the best of me as I went from one insane theory to another in seconds while I tried to figure out what I had to do with everything and then, as if he could sense my desperation for some answers, Cole’s dark midnight eyes locked with mine as he finally went to speak.

“It wasn’t supposed to be like this,” he began before pulling his eyes away from me to stare at his parents, “We had a plan, a plan that, yes I’ll admit, was deceiving to Amelia, but it was a good plan. It would have worked if we’d just had a little more time.”

“Time for what Cole,” Eleanor asked quickly, looking as confused as I felt.

Cole turned his attention to his brothers then, nodded once as if giving them the go ahead to continue and so it was Jayden that took over the conversation, but instead of looking at his parents his eyes stayed on mine as he spoke, “The plan was to make Amelia fall for all three of us. We needed a convincing reason for the council to agree to us ruling together. And the only way we could see that happening was if they were convinced we were all in a relationship with one women. Amelia’s true love for each of us would have been more than enough reason along with the fact that she would willingly decide to marry us. It was a simple plan, one we thought was the right way to go if we ever wanted to rule together and us ruling together is very important. Us ruling together is what would make the difference in us being strong enough to win against the up rising that we are sure is coming or losing. One of us in power is not as strong as all three of us,” Jayden finishes is explanation and then suddenly strides over to me, grabbing my hands in his as he kneels before me, “I am so sorry Amelia, for deceiving you, but we had no other choice.”

At that moment, it was like a dark fog had settled inside me as my mind suddenly began to go over everything that has happened since the moment I met Cole in the park all those weeks ago. The fear of not knowing what was happening, the contract, meeting the brothers, meeting their parents and how happy they were that I was here, the gifts, all the flirty from the brothers…Jayden’s kiss, the frustration and anger… my confusing feelings , everything. My mind went through everything and for some reason there was only one question I wanted an answer to and it was out of my mouth and out into the air around us before I could care to stop it.

“Was any of it real?” I said my voice coming out slightly shaky and quiet. Then the weight of my question set in and before I knew it I was ripping my hands away from Jayden’s and shooting up from my seat, “Was any of it real at all?” I said again as my voice grew in power, rising to a loud shout as I shot each of the brother a glare, “The gifts, all the flirting and acting like you actually were interested in me…like you wanted me. Was all that just part of your so called ‘plan’!? And that kiss,” I said shaking my head in disbelief as I looked at Jayden again, “Was that part of the plan too?”
