Chapter 1

2 days before Emma leaves...

Riker POV

Emma and I were cuddling on the couch together, watching a movie. This month had flown by way too fast! I couldn't believe she'd be leaving in only 2 days!

When the movie was over, I looked over at Emma, who was looking right back at me.

"What do you want to do?" I asked.

Emma laid on top of me, hugging me tight.

"Stay in your arms forever."

"You should probably go pack."

"I don't want to."

"You have to. Come on. I'll help you."

"I don't want to! I want to stay here!"

"Emma, if I help you pack, we'll have more time to spend together."

"Fine..."

Emma and I walked up to Rydel's room, holding hands. We packed for about an hour. We were finally finished.

"I can't believe I'm leaving the day after tomorrow. What's going to happen to us?" Emma asked.

"I don't know. What do you think we should do?"

"What do you mean?"

"Should we... break up?"

"No!"

"Ok."

"Yeah. I guess we could just skype and stuff."

"For 10 months without actually seeing each other? Don't you think that's kind of crazy? Emma, I really want this to work. But I don't know how we can do this if we're apart."

"We can visit each other on weekends."

"That's kind of pointless, though. We'd arrive late Friday night, and have to leave early Sunday morning. We'd only get a day."

"Riker, don't you want to at least try to make this work?"

"Yeah, but I want to see you in person for more than just a day. And think about it, that one day we're visiting, we'll have homework. I don't know if this is going to work."

"It's not, if you continue having that attitude."

"I don't have an attitude!"

"Riker, you're blowing off all my ideas of ways we can keep in touch and see each other! It's like you don't even care about us anymore! Why don't you want to try to make this work!?"

"I do! But I think we need a different solution."

"Like what?"

"I don't know! But if I only get to see you for a few hours on Saturday, and through a screen the rest of the time... I don't know if I can do that..."

"Why!?"

"Because it'll be too painful."

"Riker, that's ridiculous! I thought you said you loved me! If you really loved me, you'd help make this work!"

"I do love you!"

"Obviously not! Remember when you had that panic attack when I wasn't your girlfriend? That showed true love. Right now, it's obvious you don't care!"

"I do so care!"

"No you don't!"

I couldn't even control myself anymore. I had Emma pinned against a wall now.

"I care more about you than you do about me!" I shouted, only inches from Emma's face.

"No, you don't! You don't care at all! Now get off of me!"

"No!"

"Riker, get off!"

Rocky ran in, pulled me back, and dragged me into our shared room, closing the door behind us.

"Dude, what has gotten into you!? You can't do stuff like that to Emma! What were you thinking!? And what were you fighting about!?"

I sat down on my bed, not making eye contact with Rocky.

"You're unbelievable," Rocky said, walking out of the room.

I could hear Emma crying, and Rocky trying to calm her down. That should be me in there. Not him. It only made me angrier. I regretted fighting with Emma. We only had a day and a half left together. We shouldn't spend it fighting. This isn't how it's supposed to end.

I felt the anger drain from my body as guilt washed over me. Maybe I should try to make things work. It might be painful, but we'd still be together, and we'd still be able to talk to each other. It'd definitely be better than not talking to each other at all!

I opened my door and walked into Rydel's room.

"Can I talk to her?" I asked Rocky.

Rocky raised his eyebrows at me.

"I'm calm. I won't do anything."

Rocky left and closed the door behind himself. Before I could say anything, Emma stood up and stood face to face with me.

"You're right. It's not going to work. As of now, we're through," Emma said, walking out of the room.

I stood there for a few seconds not knowing what to do. I was upset, angry, and scared. I can't lose her again.

I ran down the stairs, looking for Emma. I saw her sitting outside with her feet in the pool. I sat down next to her.

"Emma, I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened back there. I just lost control. I want to make things work. Can we please try?"

"Riker, I don't want to. I've been dreading going back home and leaving you here. After all this, I just don't have the strength. I can't do this," Emma said, getting up and leaving.

Wow, Riker. Great job. You broke Emma's heart once again.

I might not even get the chance to fix it this time. If I can't come up with an amazing plan before she leaves, I'm totally screwed.
