Chapter 21

Emma POV

I pulled Riker's hand, and brought him out into the living room.

"Is everything ok?" Ross asked.

"Hopefully it will be," I said, pulling Riker out the front door.

We sat down on the front steps of the house. I still had Riker's hand in mine, and I was rubbing it slowly in circles with my thumb.

"Riker, please tell me what's been going on. Start with last night."

Riker's head fell onto my shoulder.

"I had a dream," Riker whispered.

"About?"

"About you, me, and Ross."

"And?"

"And you left me for Ross. You didn't want me anymore. And I feel like I have to live up to certain standards so you still love me. It's like I have to compete for you! And I love you so much, and I never want you to leave me!"

"Awww! Riker! None of that's true! You don't have to live up to any standards, and you don't have to compete. I love you just the way you are, and I will always love you. It was just a dream, Riker. But I'm sorry you were so upset."

"I just don't want you to ever leave me because I love you so much! And if I didn't have you, I wouldn't know what to do anymore!"

"Awww, Riker. I'll always be yours no matter what, ok? You don't ever have to worry about this."

I hugged Riker, and I could tell he felt relieved, but he was still all worked up.

"Just try to calm down, ok? Take deep breaths," I said, rubbing Riker's back.

"Emma?"

"What?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, Riker."

"Really?"

"Yeah. So what are we doing today?"

"Um... I don't know. I brought a few games we could play."

"Alright, do you want to go back inside?"

"Ross is probably going to make fun of me..."

"Why?"

"For acting like a baby!"

"Riker. Don't talk like that. He's not going to make fun of you."

"But he never sees me cry! I'll be embarrassed, and then he'll just make it worse."

"Riker."

"The only reason I let myself get this way in front of you is because I know you're going to be nice to me!"

"Riker, Ross is your brother, and he loves you. He'll be nice to you too."

"Fine. Let's just go."

Riker and I walked back inside.

"Are you ok, Riker?" Ross asked.

"Yeah... Thanks..."

Ross got up from the couch and hugged Riker. It was so cute to see their brotherly love. But little did we all know, that was about to be destroyed later.

Riker found a deck of cards. We sat on the floor in a circle, and started playing random card games until we got hungry for lunch. We had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
