Chapter 14

Riker POV

I could barely concentrate on the rest of the class. And that was probably just hurting my grade even more. I was freaking out inside over why the teacher wanted to see me after class! What did I do!?

When the bell finally rang, I packed up my stuff, and went up to my teacher.

"Why'd you want to see me?" I asked, kind of scared.

"Riker, I couldn't help but notice your quiz grades."

"I'm trying really hard, but I just don't get it!"

"Ok. Well I arranged for you to have a tutor. You're starting today, and you'll have an hour session every day except Friday."

"Who's my tutor?"

"She is."

I turned around and saw Emma walk into the classroom. She looked confused.

"Emma, this is who you'll be tutoring."

"I'm tutoring you!?"

Emma POV

I was beyond shocked. And apparently so was Riker. He looked mortified, and after a few seconds of staring at each other, he ran out of the room.

I realized my mouth was open, so I shut it, and looked up at my teacher.

"Is there a problem?" My teacher asked, confused.

"Uh... No. I guess we were both just surprised..."

"Oh, you know each other?"

"Yeah. I just moved in with his family."

"Oh. Well if you don't feel comfortable tutoring him-"

"No, I'll do it. Um... I guess I'll go try to find him..."

"Thanks, Emma. For tutoring him."

"No problem."

I ran out of the classroom, and looked down the hallways. I didn't see Riker. I tried calling him, but he wouldn't pick up. By now, I knew I'd missed the bus. I called Rydel.

"Hello?"

"Rydel, is Riker on the bus?"

"Yeah, he's here. Where are you?"

"I'm at school."

"Oh. Why?"

"I missed the bus. It's a long story. I'm going to walk home. I'll be there in 10 minutes."

"Ok."

"Oh, and please don't let Riker leave the house."

"Ok...?"

"Thanks! Love you!"

I hung up, and left the school. I walked on the side of the road. Riker's house wasn't very far. Only about a 10 minute walk.

When I got back home, I marched up the stairs to Riker's room, and pounded on the door. Riker opened it, obviously not expecting it to be me. When he saw me, he tried to shut it, but I pushed my way in, and stood in front of the door, preventing Riker from leaving. He sat on his bed, avoiding my eyes.

"Riker, what the heck was that all about?" I asked.

Riker didn't do or say anything.

"Riker, I talked to our teacher. I'm still your tutor. Apparently you're failing the class! Why didn't you tell me you needed help!? I asked you so many times if you needed help on the homework! Why didn't you say anything!?"
