Chapter 19
Friday Afternoon...
Riker POV
I stared at my quiz. I was sure I knew how to do this stuff, but at the same time, I had no idea what I was doing. And this was only the first question!
I kept working through my quiz, showing work, so even if it was wrong, I might get partial credit. When I got to the last question, I didn't even know how to start it, and it was 8 points! I started freaking out.
If I leave it blank, I'll have minus 8 points already!
I kept looking at the clock. I was losing time, and I still hadn't written anything. I nervously got up and asked the teacher if I could go to the bathroom. She said yes, and I left the classroom. I locked myself in one of the bathroom stalls, and took out my phone. I texted Emma.
"Emma, I need help! I have no idea how to do the last question on the quiz!"
I didn't know if she'd even text back because we weren't supposed to have our phones in class.
"Riker, I can't help you. That would be cheating."
"But I did bad on everything, and if I miss 8 points, I'm screwed!"
"All I'm going to say, is think back to the math question we did yesterday. The one you had to start over on. How'd you solve it?"
"Ok... Thanks."
I shoved my phone in my pocket, and went back to math class. I sat down at my desk, and looked at the problem again. I started working on it, but I wasn't sure I was doing it right. I got an answer, and decided to just go with it. I handed my quiz in, and sat back down at my desk. We had 3 minutes left until class was over.
Finally the bell rang! I ran out of class, and met Emma by the lockers.
"How'd you text me during the quiz?" Emma asked.
"I asked to go to the bathroom."
Emma rolled her eyes.
"Don't ever do that again. That's cheating, Riker."
"I know, but it wasn't really because you didn't tell me anything."
"I know, but still. Don't do it again. I almost got caught texting in class!"
"I'm sorry."
Emma and I got on the bus, and sat next to each other. When we got home, I went upstairs to Emma and Rydel's room.
"Why are you here?" Emma asked.
"You said you wanted me to help you pack."
"Oh... Yeah."
Emma got a suitcase, and threw a bunch of clothes into it. I didn't really help much, because I didn't know what I should even do! I helped her carry her bags downstairs though.
We put everything in my car, and got in.
"Ready?" I asked.
"No."
"Why not?"
"You're forgetting something."
"What?"
"Your brother, Ross!"
"Oh!"
I ran inside, yelled at Ross for not being ready, and dragged him out to my car. Emma sat in the front with me, and Ross sat in the back.
Later...
Emma POV
It takes a very long time to get to Riker's friend's summer place. We've been driving for hours! It was now dark out.
