Jenna groaned as the baby monitor crackled to life again, the wailings of the baby waking her from her light slumber.

Jenna got up off the couch and entered the baby's room.

There lay Mallory Jenna Joseph, squirming and crying in her crib.

Jenna lifted Mallory from the crib, resting her tiny head in the crook of her arm.

Funnily enough, little Mal didn't like being held by her Mommy; she liked Daddy. It was probably because Daddy sang to her all the time.

Jenna lacked skill in singing, the art most mothers need to be at least mediocre at to calm their children.

She decided to do what she always did; just hum softly and walk slowly around the room until Mal calmed down.

It worked, and Jenna kissed her daughter's forehead before carefully laying the child back in her crib.

Jenna quietly went back to the living room. She saw her phone light up and heard it buzzing.

Jenna smiled and answered it, her phone opening to FaceTime.

"Hello, my love," Tyler's voice rang out rather loudly.

"Shhh!" Jenna scolded, turning her volume down. "Mal's asleep."

"Oh, sorry," Tyler chuckled. "I'll keep my voice down. So, Mal's still having trouble sleeping, huh?"

Jenna nodded gravely. "She can't sleep for more than an hour without waking up." She reported groggily, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Well," Tyler began, a small smirk on his face. "You're the one who wanted a baby."

Jenna rolled her eyes. "Shut up, you wanted one, too."

Tyler nodded. "I know. And now we have a beautiful baby girl who refuses to sleep."

Jenna nodded as well, smiling. "Really."

Tyler opened his mouth, but the baby monitor went off again.

"Wow, she really is refusing to sleep." Tyler said. "You know what? Take the phone with you. I came across this lullaby that should have her out for the rest of the night."

"You're sure about that?" Jenna asked skeptically, taking the phone with her anyway.

"I'm sure, Jenna," Tyler reassured her. "And turn on the hallway light."

"Okay," Jenna said slowly, turning on the light.

Jenna walked over to the crib and held the baby in her left arm, and the phone in her right hand. "Hey, Mal. Look who it is!" She whispered, pointing the screen in Mal's field of vision.

She hiccuped, then giggled, kicking her little legs and smiling a gummy smile.

"Hey, Mal!" Tyler greeted, smiling back. "It's Daddy! I'm gonna sing to you, is that okay?"

The child just giggled in response.

"Okay, sweetie," Tyler chuckled. He cleared his throat and began to sing.

Close your eyes, lay your head down

Now it's time to sleep

May you find great adventure

As you lie and dream

If you're scared of the darkness

I will calm your fear

There's a light in the hallway

So you know I'm here

So count your blessings every day

It makes the monsters go away

And everything will be okay

You are not alone

You are right at home

Goodnight, goodnight

You won't need me forever

But I'll still be here

For we all have our nightmares

Even me, my dear

From now on, if you need me

You can sing this song

There's a light in the hallway

Burning all night long

So count your blessings every day

It makes the monsters go away

And everything will be okay

You are not alone

You are right at home

Goodnight, goodnight

Goodnight, goodnight

Jenna had tears in her eyes as the song ended. She looked down and saw that Mal was fast asleep.

She looked up at the screen, seeing Tyler break into a smile. "Jenna, you're crying,"

Jenna nodded, chuckling. "That was beautiful, Ty. If she doesn't sleep the rest of the night, I swear."

Tyler laughed. "That song was for you, too, Jenna." He said quietly. "I'll be back soon, okay?"

"Okay."

And with a single click, the call was ended.

Jenna set Mal down in her crib.

She went to her own room, and fell asleep to memories of Tyler singing the lullaby.
