As soon as I walk inside my house, I feel bad. Gale didn't do anything wrong, he just asked if I was ready to move on, and I just burst. I walk into the kitchen to find Haymitch drinking a large bottle of alcohol. I jog over and pulls the bottle away from his hands. "You were supposed to be sober!" I say as I spill the alcohol into the silvery sink. Haymitch stares at me, obviously not processing what's going on. I throw the dark bottle into the bin. Haymitch cries out as he reaches for the empty bottle.
"Give it back!" he yells, but I don't flinch. Haymitch stands up but then trips and falls back onto the chair. "Where is Prim?" I demand. Haymitch gestures at the hallway then falls unconscious. I turn and walk to the kids bedroom. Note to self, get a better babysitter I think as I open the door.
Gales POV
I stare at the scene before me, while sitting on the rough bark of the tree. I watch the tall trees sway in the cold wind, the leaves making loud rustling sounds. The clouds are dark and thick, heavy with wet rain. I keep running the scene over and over in my head.
"GO BACK TO DISTRICT TWO!" I hear in my head. I wince uncomfortably at the sound, however I know it's just in my head.
I should leave, I think. Katniss doesn't want me here, I have no reason for being here. I fiddle with my hands as a tear threatens to escape my eye. No Gale, she needs you. Even if she doesn't admit it.
Rue's POV
I feel a pinch as the doctor inserts a large looking needle into my arm. I hold back tears that are collecting at my eyes.
"Done!" the doctor says as he pulls out the needle. "Your really brave Rue, well done," he says as he hands me a sticker that says Good Job!!! In bright red letters. I smile as he sticks the sticker on my shirt. Then I remember mum...and dad. I refuse to believe he is dead, he is probably hiding somewhere out there. I will see him again, I must see him again.
