"This isnt- exactly- you're best- idea!" I grunted as I pulled myself up against the brick wall. Liam had decided to climb it, so that's what we were doing right now. I get one side, he gets the other.
"Its the best we have!" He yelled back. "How you doing?"
"Almost, there!" I shrieked as one of my hands slipped, "Yeah, I think I'm just gonna fall!"
"Madison!"
Just as my fingers were about to slip, I felt someone grab my hand, pulling me up. After what seemed like eternity, I was finally out of the well, on solid ground, looking up and seeing my leader, smiling down.
"Liam-" I croak, not finishing the sentence as Scott dove down to pull his beta out of the well. I hugged Scott, thanking him, then hugged Liam tightly.
He winced and I pulled back, realization dawning on me. "Wolfsbane." I whispered.
Liam didn't look at me.
"All those hours in the well, why didn't you tell me?" I said, my voice raising.
"Mads-" Scott tried to reason with me, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"No!"
"Madison." I heard a firm voice behind me, and froze. "We need to get him to Deaton's. Nows not the time to give someone a lecture."
I gave Liam a look, slowly turning away towards my father, but instead of hugging him, he just put his arm around me, walking me to his car. Of course being his daughter, I sat in the passenger seat. Dad talked to Scott, and soon, he and Liam were coming into the car, the beta in the backseat while my father obviously drove.
I was quiet the whole ride.
;;
I watched as Deaton made an incision in Liam's chest. The beta squirmed, and a yellow puff of smoke emerged from his incision.
"He may be unconscious for a while." Deaton announced, as the boy soon closed his eyes, resting.
Scott stared at his beta, fear and concern taking over his face. But their was also something else. Something that has been haunting me for these past few months.
Guilt.
"I don't want to keep watching people die." He finally spoke up.
"I'm afraid you don't have much of a choice about that." Dad said.
"Maybe I do."
"That's a lot of burden to carry, Scott." Deaton interjected.
"I don't care. No one else dies. Everyone on that list, everyone on that dead pool. It doesn't matter if they're wendigos or werewolves or whatever." He looked up as he proclaimed his next statement. "I'm going to save everyone."
;;
"Want to go home now?" Dad asked, coming near me as I sat on a chair in a ball. I had been staring at Liam for the past- actually, I don't even know.
I shook my head, running a hand through my hair. "I need to talk to him."
"Madison, it's almost, midnight. You have school tomorrow-"
"Another reason this can't wait. I can't talk to him in school. Not in front of everyone. Not about this."
"Okay," Dad murmured, kissing my head. "We'll talk later."
He walked out the door, leaving just me and an unconscious Liam in the room. Deaton was in another room, tending to some actual work things. I watched carefully as his chest heaved up and down, and after a few minutes, he coughed and sat up.
