Chapter 18:

I don't sleep that night. I toss and turn, but sleep doesn't come over me. My pillow is damp from my tears. I knew nothing good was going to happen the moment I was forced to marry.

I watch the sunrise; it's early in the morning. I hear the door creek open and I face the door. It's Cameron.

"Shhh..." he says, and comes over and rolls a baggage of suitcases over. "The medical staff knows, and you're ready to go." A nurse behind him comes beside my bed, removes everything I'm attached to, then she leaves, yawning.

Cameron walks and sits down beside me on my bed, and I rise and sit next to him.

"So." I say.

"So."

"Where will I go?"

"Wherever life takes you."

"Meaning?"

"Walk until you recognize nothing anymore. Leave all this behind you. Start a new life."

He reaches into his pocket and presses an envelope in my hands, and he nods for me to open.

I open it and found a large sum of money in it. "Cameron, I can't accept this."

His hand closes over mine. "You must. You need this to survive."

Tears cloud my vision; everything appeared blurry in the world.

I take my baggage with me, and he walks next to me to the entrance of the hospital, and when we reach the edge of the woods, the very woods I had disappeared before.

I let go of my bags and stand, looking at him.

I feel my heart breaking. Shattered in a million pieces. I feel warm salty tears pouring down my cheeks.

"Hey," he says, wiping my tears with his thumb. "You're going to be okay. When you've settled, I'll come looking for you."

I cry and he holds me in his arms, and I could feel his chest heaving.

"So is this goodbye?" I ask my voice thick.

He looks at me, and he presses his lips against mine for what seems to be forever. A moment I wished never ended.

"Goodbye Hayden." He pulls away and I watch as he walks off into the day, the sun rising and filling the earth with light. The day has begun, filled with hope and new beginnings.

I walk away into the woods, pulling all my things with me.

I don't look back.
