Chapter 19:

I walk, and walk, and walk. I will do what he tells me. I'll walk. I'll walk until nothing is familiar.

When I've finally reached to the other side of the forest, the moon is up. I take a step out of the forest, and it's so different to where I've started. It's a quiet area of houses, not flashy big mansion ones, but cute cozy houses.

I walk down the road, my suitcases rumbling behind me as I pull them. They seem so loud in such a quiet area. Lights pop up from some houses, and a few peer out to see what is causing the noise.

I wonder where I'm going to go now. Where am I going to live? Eat? How will I survive? Where am I headed to? I was just pondering these questions when I heard someone call my name faintly.

I turn around, and it happens to be a girl who's yelling out my name. Once I turned around, she immediately became ecstatic. "Hayden! It is you!"

She beckons me to come into her house, her parents peering out curiously behind her. She looks vaguely familiar, and as I get closer to her, I remember who she is.

"Tanya!" I scream as I run into her outstretched arms. I hug her and she holds me, making up for all those years.

"Where have you been? You've lost contact since I left Alabama!" She pulls away, and she looks so happy. She used to be my best friend since childhood, until she left to come here. I've forgotten she lived here!

"Life's been complicated." Then reality comes crashing back, tears spring into my eyes and I hastily wipe them away. "But you know-"

"H, something's not right. Come in and tell me all about it." She looks so kind, so understanding, like she could see right through me.

I walk in with my suitcases, and I refuse to meet Tanya's parents' eyes. They've known me well too, Tanya and I used to be so close we pretty much hung out at both our houses everyday, and we became inseparable when they moved next door.

She ushers me into her house, and we ended up having a sleepover, with me telling her everything that's been going on. We go through the night talking, laughing and shedding tears, catching up on all those years.

I smile as I think, maybe there's hope for me after all.
