Chapter 11:
(Cameron's Point of View)
I knew it was a bad idea, but I had to do that. I honestly didn't know that Hayden was going to join me for dinner, and I most definitely didn't want to hurt her.
"Who was that?" she asked.
"Um..." I couldn't reply. Kelly looked at me with her big brown eyes, and I had to get away. "Kelly, I don't think we should do this anymore. I- oh never mind. I'll have Peter take you home." She looked confused, but she did as I said.
"Bye Cam!"
I have to make it up to Hayden, I need to explain myself.

I run before the tears escape, away from the scene. I run straight into the kitchen, lively with chatter. Gemma and Tarin look up with big grins, but they fade when they see me brushing my tears away, and smiling brightly.
Tarin whispers something to Gemma, and she breaks away from the dinner table and leads me back to my room. "Hey...what's the matter?" I shake my head, letting more tears drop. "Tell me what happened."
I sob-tell her what I saw in the dining table, and she looked shocked. She let me lend her shoulder, getting it wet and soggy, stroking my back. "Don't let him get to you, he doesn't deserve you." I feel a lot better. "Hey, I'll get going now; leave you with your thoughts. I'll bring you some dinner, so just stay here and don't go anywhere." She shoots me one more worried look, and I smile to reassure her I'd be alright.
I don't understand this.
There is a moment of silence, only me and my thoughts. I think back to yesterday, and then today. It doesn't add up, but he did react oddly after he got up.
There's a soft knock on the door, I sniff my tears up, hold up a big fake bright smile. "Come in!"
I expected Tarin and Gemma coming in with hot soup and food, but instead, Cameron is standing at the doorway. "Is this not a good time?" he says awkwardly.
We stare at each other in silence for a few moments, and then I wave him in.
"Um...I think I should explain myself."
I give him a small smile. "It's okay; you don't owe me any explanations. Why should you? I'm just a girl that your dad married by arrangement, why should you explain to me anything? Your life is your life. Don't let me get in your way."
Cameron shakes his head and he walks across the room towards the bed and sits next to me. "You don't get in my way."
There's a moment of silence, we both appear to be extremely interested in the carpet.
"Hayden."
I look up at him.
"I didn't mean that." He was referring to the kiss he shared with the brunette.
"Looks like you did." I say bitterly. Where did bitter come from? It's not like he's my boyfriend or anything.
He sighs and takes both my hands in his, so that I sit facing him. "I did it because I was scared. I was scared I was falling for you. I can't do it. I needed to distract myself."
I say nothing.
"I'm sorry."
I still say nothing.
There are too many thoughts whirling busily around my head. Did he mean what he said? Pause and rewind, did he say falling for me? I understand he would be scared.
I finally open my mouth, "Cameron."
His name is immediately muffled. His mouth came on mine, and I follow his lead. He let me up for air and buried his head on my neck and murmured. "Now do you believe me?"
I closed my eyes, and I find his lips with my own. I put my arms around his neck, and he lifted me up so that I'm sitting on his lap.
When we finally let go of each other, we both lay side by side on my king sized bed, staring at the ceiling, talking and trying to get to know each other better.
By the time we stopped talking, we were both tired. Midnight had long passed.
"Um... you want to spend the night?"
He already made himself comfortable.
"Um...okay." I turn away from him and close my eyes.
Seconds later, I feel strong arms holding me, I sigh contently.
But even when I'm in his arms, I can't help thinking: What happens now? Where do I stand in his life?
I push these thoughts away. I'll worry about them tomorrow.
