day 1

i was at my doorstep to my apartment. i hadn't come back for days and was missing it. but i was missing the person inside it more.

i unlocked the door with my keys and stepped in, greeted by a wide-eyed raven. within a second, she jumped on me.

"woah there! easy!" i laughed, pulling down my sleeves as she hugged me. "how's life without me around?"

raven pulled back and looked me in the eye, "every waking minute was agony, not a moment without you was worth living, i wanted to hang myself," she said seriously.

"i missed you too." i grinned.

"why haven't you been answering my calls?" she asked hotly, "been too busy on lover boy's bed?"

i flushed, because that was exactly what i've been doing, just not in the way she meant. apparently, she thought it was true judging by my face, so she said, "I don't want any details sweetie, now just hang out with me or i'll shove you out the door."

i had no doubt that she would carry out her threat so i happily agreed. we ended up eating pizza and swimming in a lake and breaking into a music store late at night to listen to vinyl records and play darts.

the crazy wildness of the day almost made me forgot my troubles. almost.

cade could sense my over-happiness the next day. that's because he told me. he asked me what was wrong. i said nothing. he didn't believe me. i gave up the act and sighed.

in my melancholy, i asked him, "what if one day i left all of a sudden?"

"why would you leave?" he asked.

"when i leave for college or move overseas or something."

"i'll just follow you then." he said casually, sincere and truth in his words.

"you can't follow me," I stated, "you're too old for college and you have your family."

"a bird's always got to leave the nest right?" he smiled, "anna, i know we've only met for a while but—"

"oh, don't tell me you're proposing to me." i joked. cade's humor had rubbed off me.

he looked at me wryly. "something similar to that," he said, "anyway, fate has concluded that i was meant to be your best friend and that i'll follow you to the ends of the earth. not in a romantic way of course, luke is your dream guy."

"that's so sweet," i almost shed a tear, my face filled with emotions i could not hide, "you're the best."

"only the best for you, anna."
