"Dream as if you will live forever; Live as if you will die today." — James Dean
"Lucy, is that you?" A man from the shadows emerged, revealing cloudy eyes and scruffy brown hair.
Perfect timing.
"Hey, Connor. Happy birthday," I said while pulling him in for a hug.
"I'm so happy you could make it! I wasn't sure if you were going to show up. You can get anything that you want. Beer, rum, whiskey. We have it all." Connor grinned, stepping back.
I nodded and told him, "A beer is fine."
"Alright..." He chuckled, averting his gaze over to Harry.
Crap. I forgot to introduce the two.
"Hi, I'm Connor. Nice to meet you, mate," He extended his hand out to Harry, and to my surprise he actually shook it.
"The name's Harry and nice to meet you too I guess."
They awkwardly broke contact.
"Okay. I'll be right back with your beer Lucy. Do you want anything, mate?"
"Nah, I'm good," Harry forced a smile as Connor jogged back to his friends.
"You should leave now Harry," I whispered to him while crossing my arms.
"No way. I'm not going anywhere until I know you're mentally stable." His tone became serious again as he clenched his jaw.
For some reason his response ignited a rage in me I didn't know existed. I wasn't some charity case, and I didn't appreciate being treated as one.
"I'm fine, Harry. I don't need you to take care of me! I can do that just fine by myself," I spat.
"You're a horrible liar..." He said after a moment of silence, making me scoff.
When Connor came back with my beer, he invited Harry and me down to the bonfire and handed us smores. Though I was still upset with him, I ended up giving my marshmallow to Harry because I couldn't eat it. It contained gelatin, and gelatin comes from cows, and I don't eat meat. I honestly don't even recall ever telling Harry I was a vegetarian. He just knew.

After three or four more beers, I was dancing with Connor along to the songs playing on the radio. I felt like I didn't have a care in the world, and all the anger I had built up inside of me subsided. Alcohol did a good job of suppressing my feelings.
It was around midnight or so, and even more people had shown up to the beach to celebrate Connor's birthday even though it technically passed. Our movements gradually came to a stop, and he smiled over at me when the track switched to another song, and everyone got in a line and started grinding with each other.
For awhile I assumed it was Connor whom I was grinding up against until a large pair of hands held onto my swaying hips and spun me around. I met the boy's green eyes with a shy smile. The smile he sent back highlighted his dimples, my heart fluttering at the sight.
I turned around again and moved against him as we continued grinding to the music in perfect sync. My hand slowly traveled up the expanse of his neck, fingertips slightly brushing against his dark ringlets. When I tugged on a few baby hairs, he stifled a moan into the back of my neck. The music was loud but, because we were so close, I was able to grasp the sound.
The more we danced, the more prominent the bulge inside his pants became. I could feel it pressing against my crotch, and it felt good. Hell, being this close to him felt good, but I wanted to get even closer. I wanted to be as close to him as physically possible.
I didn't know where all these feelings were coming from, but the flame only intensified as he traced circles into my side with his thumb. I twisted my neck to look over my shoulder, staring at Harry with a sense of urgency in my eyes. His pupils dilated as we made eye contact. It was like he read my mind or something because he took my hand in his knowingly and nodded as we carefully removed ourselves from the party scene.
No one even noticed.
