Ok, ok, this will sound mad. I mean mad, completely mad. I saw my mother disintegrate before my dead eyes. I just thought it was part of death and I felt this deep regret, this massive regret within myself. I wanted to take back everything that I had just done, but I couldn't. I could just see black.
"Hello." I heard.
It was my imagination, it had to be.
"Helloooo!" I heard again. My eyes flicked open and I saw a little girl in front of me. She giggled.
"Hello?" I said uncertainly. The little girl had a pale face and had long flowing blonde locks of hair, her eyes were bright blue and she was wearing a white layered dress.
"Haha!" She laughed and clapped her hands. "My name is Faye, and your name is Natasha!"
She stretched her hand out to me and then I realised I was lying on the floor.
"No, you're fine, but thanks." I dismissed her helping hand. She frowned and folded her arms, then I realised that I couldn't lift up my body. "Not as easy as it looks, huh?"
"Why can't I stand?" I asked beginning to get panicked.
"Forces aren't the same as on Earth." Faye told me and she grabbed my hand and lifted me up with ease. "No one person is heavier than the next."
"Oh." I dusted myself off and saw that I was still in my blood-stained school uniform, "but what do you mean the forces are different from Earth? We're still on Earth, right?
"I think you know the answer to that question, Natasha."
I looked around myself and saw that we were in a forest, right next to a spring of clear blue water. The tree's were a perfect green colour and the sunrays shining through them complimented them perfectly, there were flowers all over the hard brown ground and this is when I noticed that Faye had wings.
"Wings...?" I didn't know what to say.
"Oh yes, you like them? Took me fifty years to get them this long, was worth it though."
"Fifty years...?"
"I'm of the Fae, Natasha." Faye explained and she turned away from the spring and began to skip elegantly.
"But how do you know my name?" I had so many questions.
"My mother is your guardian." She simply said as if it was all natural. As we walked through the beautiful woodland I began to see living things around me, I saw a very small man with pointy ears hiding behind a bush. It was the stereotypical elf, but elves didn't exist, but then again neither did fairies... I saw what I first thought were flies but Faye told me they were pixies. It was just pure madness.
"Faye, where are we going?" I asked.
"My mother wanted me to collect you." Faye began to jump from tree stump to tree stump.
"What is this place?"
"Well this area is the land of the Fae, here there are elves, sprites, pixies, brownies, mermaids, dryads, imps and nymphs AKA the Fae." Faye told me.
"No, but where are we as a whole?" I asked my heart was racing, everything seemed harmless yet I was terrified. Everything was so weird and different, it was the unknown that I was scared of, everything was perfect. Too perfect.
"BENNY!" Faye stopped and squealed in delight as a little elf of some sort ran out from behind a bush to see her. I wasn't ready for an elf to come running out right in front of me and I tripped up and grazed all of my knee, it was painful and as I was wearing a skirt I watched as the cut healed itself up in seconds.
"Sorry 'orry 'orry!" said the elf, Benny, "Didn't mean to hurt you!"
"No, no, it's fine." I was still baffled by the fact that elves existed and now that I'd seen my leg heal itself, it was too hard to stomach. I couldn't believe it. It couldn't have been happening.
It was then that a hand rested on my shoulder and made me jump, it was a very bony hand.
"Don't worry, child, I know it's hard but you'll find your place." The woman sounded very wise, I turned around to say thank you but ended up screaming. The hand belonged to a tree. As in a tree was bent over talking to me.
"I didn't mean to give you a fright." The tree said putting its branch/hand to its mouth and chuckling to itself.
"I told you there are dryads!" Faye laughed, I turned to see her doubled over laughing at my expense.
"I didn't know what a dryad was." I admitted, this made Benny join in with the laughing.
"I'm not a tree, I'm a nymph. I can see you don't know what a nymph is either." The dryad laughed. "Nymphs are deity's that animate nature, I'm a spirit in a tree so to speak."
"Oh..." I said, still not entirely sure.
"Come on, Natasha, mother is getting worried I can sense it." Faye grabbed my hand and she began to run. She was running faster then I'd seen anyone run before and I was quite amazed by it. Within minutes we had escaped the woodland and we were in a meadow, I looked around the meadow and saw little dots of light floating around.
"Pixies and sprites." Faye said as if she knew exactly what I was thinking. I looked up expecting to see the sun but all I saw was a massive layer of clouds. "That's where the queen lives past the cloud barrier. It's a wonderful place, maybe I should take you to the royal palace and show you around someday."
"Maybe..." By this point I was certain I was dreaming, there was no other explanation.
Right in the middle of the meadow there was a tent, it was cream in colour and was pretty much plain and boring yet it had a glow about it, something that made you feel welcome and wanted.
"That's my home, let's go inside!" Faye giggled and began to run to the tent without me, I began to run after her but I was nowhere near the same speed as her. By the time I reached the tent she was long gone but hey, I thought, it's a tiny tent it won't be hard to find her.
I opened the flap of the tent and bent down to fit inside only to realise that as soon as I walked in the roof was a lot higher and I could stand up straight.
"Look, I told you I'd bring her, mummy!" Faye's voice came from a near distance. I looked around and saw this was one small room in a chain of many rooms. Another flap opened and out came Faye in front of one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen, she had blonde hair and a perfect figure, she wore a long white flowing dress and her wings had a bluish glow about them.
"Natasha, dear." She smiled, she looked as if she was in her mid-20s. it was then that I recognised her, she was the young school librarian.
"Miss Firth?" I asked.
"No, that was my alias to watch you, I'm your guardian." She smiled.
"I don't understand..." I began.
"You were chosen for some reason to come here when you died, a few other lucky ones come as well but they stay up in the royal palace. I'm sure Mr Collins told you everything happens for a reason when you found out about Katie..." She hinted.
"You don't mean...?" My eyes began to water with delight.
"Yes, that's exactly what I mean." She smiled and came closer towards me. "Katie is up in the royal palace as we speak, unfortunately you can't see her just yet..."
"Wait, why not?!" I demanded, I felt as if my hopes had been brought up just to be crushed.
"Katie was brought straight to the palace, by this I mean when she died she ended up in the palace straight away, a few who are chosen are already light hearted and are ready but those of you who are heavy hearted must stay down here for a while." She explained sympathetically.
"But I will see her again?" I asked quickly.
"Yes, you will." She smiled, "Anyway my name is Tianna and I am the ruler of the Fae, so to speak. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine."
