My step father had shown up later in the night and I laid in my bed and sighed. I could hear my sisters in their rooms making the occasional noise and I looked around my dark room snuggling my head to my pillow.

I glanced at my phone it was 10:03 PM (A. N.-actual time I'm writing this) and I smiled softly. Tomorrow was Friday. Thank God. I closed my eyes.

After a while my phone buzzed. I woke with a start. My hand reached for my phone and I looked at it.

Convel: Goodnight princess

I smiled at the message and drifted to sleep.

I woke to the sound of my sisters screaming to get up. I growled and slipped out of my bed. It was 5:30 AM.

I walked to my closet and grabbed dark skinny jeans and a white shirt with black block letters across the chest reading: LOVE. I slipped into my black and white converse and put on my chain cross necklace. I was a tomboy at heart really.

I grabbed my phone and slipped it into my pocket. I trotted down the hall and ate a quick breakfast. My sisters finished their food also and my mom said her goodbyes before leaving for work with my two youngest siblings. My stepdad had already left.

We waited for a bit before I walked my sisters to school then left for the bus stop.

My feet crunched on the fallen leaves as I walked along and I turned the corner to the bus stop. I made my way to the steps to someone's house and sat down. Old people lived here but they didn't mind me sitting on their step waiting for the bus stop. I checked my phone. It was 6:45.

I slipped in my earphones and turned on my music. I was tapping my foot to the sound when suddenly it stopped and I was interrupted with the roaring of the phone because my ringtone was a motorcycle engine. I jumped and looked at the ID. Convel.

I answered it after a pause.

"Hello?" I asked smiling softly.

"Hey... Good morning." Convel's thick husky voice was a lovely sound that woke me up inside.

I laughed, "Good morning to you too."

"So you still up for this afternoon?" He asked after a pause and I heard a weird noise in the background.

"Yes," the noise continued. "What are you doing? What's that noise?" My question was followed by a chuckle from Convel. God his laugh was heart melting. I grinned.

"I'm doing some paperwork." He said his English like drawl slipping into his words.

"Oh... Is it boring?" I asked him.

"Yeah you could say that. But it needs to be done." He replied I was about to respond when an annoying voice yelled.

"Aye babe what you doing?" Keshawn's voice made me jump and I almost dropped my phone. I watched as he crossed the street and stalked over to me. His older brother followed slowly and shot me an apologetic glance. Keshawn wore a light blue shirt that only brought out how dark he was and he also wore kaki shorts. He walked up to where he stood in front of me.

"Who's that?" Convel said in my ears.
Keshawn looked at me and I gulped. Why was I scared of him? He frowned and looked at my phone.

"Who's that?" He mirrored Convel's question and pointed to the caller ID.

"A friend of mine Keshawn." I said plainly shrugging.

"Who's the nigga?" Keshawn growled and I backed up as he went to grab my phone. What the hell is wrong with him?

"It's none of your business." I said softly. Keshawn huffed and let out an irritated sigh.

"You think I'm stupid. Stop being a hoe. Tell me who it is." Keshawn snarled. Rage sparked in me and I was about to go off when Convel spoke. He voice sounded strained like someone trying to hold in their anger.

"Put me on speaker." Convel said. I instantly calmed down and smiled at my phone. I shook my head softly.

"No Convel it's fine." I said. Keshawn growled.

Convel let out a bitter laugh. Why was he so angry this had nothing to do with him really.

"Who is that guy? What's his problem and why is he calling you a whore? Tell me Kay. I swear to God I'll come up there." Convel said in an angry tempered voice. I felt my heart skip a beat.

"There's no need for that honestly-" I started but Convel was ranting.

"I swear Kay. If I feel like something's wrong I'll come up there right now. Do you understand me? Tell that boy to get away from you or he'll have me to deal with." Convel growled. Oh my God.

I glanced at Keshawn and stuttered, "Err he said leave me alone or you'll have to deal with him..." I felt my heart freeze at the death look he gave me. Keshawn took a step toward me and I whimpered involuntarily.

"Shawn! Leave her alone." His brother finally stepped in. I gave Kees a look of gratitude while he glared at his brother, he caught my look and smiled.

"Come on." Kees said pulling Keshawn away and boy did Keshawn look mad.

"Is he gone?" Convel's pissed off voice sounded in my ears. I couldn't help but smile a bit.

"Yes he's gone." I sighed shooting a glance at where the two brothers sat on the curb. The bus started down the street.

"Are you okay?" Convel asked his voice sounding calmer. I scoffed.

"Yes I'm fine." I said as I walked toward the bus. I let Keshawn and Kees get on first.

I sat in my seat with a sigh.

"I'm picking you up from the bus stop this afternoon okay? I don't want that guy screwing with you. What's the address- where do you get off?" Convel said suddenly and my heart clenched.

I told him the address and I ignored the looks I was getting from people eavesdropping.

"Good I'll see you then. Oh yeah expect me to show off." He added the last park with seriousness and I couldn't help but giggle.

"I love your laugh... Oh shit did I say that out loud?" He sounded as if he was about to have a heart attack and I snickered. Aww.

"Calm down Convel... And yes you did." I smiled as I said it. He chuckled nervously and my smile widened.

"See you later... Oh what time do you get off the bus?" He said clearing his throat.

"About four o'clock." I said.

"I'll be there... See you then."

"Mhm... Bye." I said and ended the call. I was grinning ear to ear but I forced it away.

"Who was that?" Someone asked.

I shook me head, "No one." But I felt the smile return.
