As the branch was coming my way, all I could think about was how I wouldn't even get to finish my birthday that had just started.
I was flying right towards the branch and at the last second I found the strength to veer to the left and down, just missing the branch.
Even though I missed the branch, I still ended up on the ground. I stood up and dusted myself off, grabbing my other shirt to go over my wings, and raced back to the house and into my room. I sat on my bed thinking of how wrong that could've ended; me face planting, me hitting the branch, me hitting the tree, me breaking a wing, and many more.
I resolved to practice each day so that I could fly without hesitation. It wouldn't be a problem sneaking into the woods, I did that everyday anyways. After awhile, I heard my mother moving around downstairs so I stood up, making sure my wings were hidden from sight, and bounded down the stairs once more.
As my foot hit the bottom step, my mom popped out from behind the couch screaming "Surprise!" Along with her were all my other camp friends and one of my best friends in school who didn't join Christina's group of friends.
She had medium length blond hair and piercing sky blue eyes, along with her casual blue tee shirt and jeans topped off with white converse. Her name was Emily C. She was the only school friend I had that had attended summer camp with me so she was the only school friend that was there.
They all smiled at me like they knew something I didn't and they were staring behind me. As I slowly turned around I saw an Oreo ice cream cake with 13 candles in it.
My friend Lizzie walked up to me and told me "Make a wish." I did. Afterwards they asked me what I wished for.
"I didn't wish for anything," I said and they all looked confused, "I have everything I need right here," with a grin on my face.
The rest of my school friends chose to burst in at that moment. Katherine with her electric blue eyes, Hannah with her smart way about her, Izzy with her wicked sense of humor, the other two Emilys who knew how to make everyone smile, and Mackenzie who was the next Picasso in our generation.
Before I knew it all of my friends piled on top of me, both school and camp, all 22 of them, with me Grace Foster on the bottom of the crushing hug pile. I had even more friends still that had not gone to Christina's group of friends, but they were all out of town since we had a short school break. To tell the truth, not many of my friends went over to Christina's group of friends, probably around four of them not including Natali but what can I say, haters gonna hate.
I stopped thinking and enjoyed the moment, most of my friends all here in one place, it was like a dream turned reality.
After the morning of more partying away, they all had to return home, and so I was again alone in the house with my mother. I finally had found out what she got me, a beautiful silver necklace with my camp's symbol that matched the outfit she gave me yesterday.
"I know it's not much, but I know how much that camp means to you Grace, and I will always support you, no matter what," she said. I was shocked silent, she had not said anything lien that to me in a long time. She held out her arms and I was in there before you could yell "Look, that girl has wings!" I soaked up that hug and looked forward to the following days ahead of me.
