Chapter 10

I woke up and sat on my bed listening to music for a few minutes, trying to figure out what day it is. Eventually I remembered that it's Saturday, Halloween.
I went downstairs to do what my mom and I normally did before the Halloween party in the afternoon. I ran out into the back shed behind the house and grabbed the pumpkin I picked out last Saturday when we went looking for the perfect pumpkins. This year I had decided to do something different; since I was being Stitch for Halloween, I took up a good two hours cleaning, planning, and then finally carving the pumpkin. After that, I ate a quick lunch, put my pumpkin on display outside, and ran into the woods.
I did my regular routine, with more open practice because I knew the only person who would venture into these parts of the woods would be Max, and he already knew I had wings.
After practice I flew up to the platform, settling in my best of fuzzy blankets and tucking my phone away. At first I was just looking at the sky and before I knew it my eyelids started to droop down, showing I was sleepy. I soon drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

Max's P.O.V.

I decided to go out into the woods again around two in the afternoon again to just sit in Grace's platform to regain peace. I was having a rough day.
I climbed the tree only to see the sleeping form of Grace sprawled out in a nest of fuzzy blankets. I took one look at her and couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my mouth.
Her golden hair was messed up and sticking all over the place and those enormous wings were spread out under her, glinting in the sunlight. She looked at peace and even in sleep she had a little smile on her face. I had to say she looked adorable, she was just so...amazing.
I wondered how old she was. It would be interesting if we were around the same age, not that she looked that much younger than me. It's just I don't get to see many people often.
I don't know when I sat down, or how long I sat there watching her, but as soon as she started to stir, I knew I had to leave. I jumped up and scrambled down the tree, making my way down to the forest floor. As soon as I hit the ground I started running. I ducked behind a tree and looked up at her, and found myself smiling before I disappeared from the world again.

Grace's P.O.V.

I woke up, feeling as if somebody had just been here. I shrugged the feeling off and looked at my phone. It was late, I had to get ready to meet up with my friends. I ran home to get ready for tonight and getting a ton of candy with my friends.

After the long night, I finally stepped back into my room. I had gotten a lot of candy with my friends and had stashed it away already.
I was just getting ready for bed, putting on sweatpants and a tee shirt, when a small rock hit my window. I ran to the window, first checking if there were any cracks and then looking down on the back yard facing the woods.
He was standing right there, in my backyard. I never expected to see him, but there he was, Max, in all his mysterious glory standing in my backyard. He looked nervous, as if he had wondered if he had gotten the right window, or maybe he was just nervous about being out of the woods. "Or maybe it's me" I thought. Nah, I don't think that would happen.
He looked up at me, his eyes getting a little bit brighter when he saw me.
"Come outside, I need to talk to you," he said. I turned around and ran down the stairs, not bothering to hide my wings because I knew my mother was asleep.
I reached the door and pulled it open, coming face to face with Max. He had a confident smirk on his face now, not showing even one bit of nervousness.
"Hey," he said. He just seemed so confident, it made me more self conscious in my sweatpants and tee shirt. "Hey," I replied.
"Look, I know it's late, but I wanted to know if I could talk to you tomorrow?" He was still confident but I could tell he was a little nervous asking me that, I could see it in his eyes.
"Sure, we can meet on my platform at noon." My reply was simple enough but with just that simple reply I could see him visibly relax.
"Ok, great. I'll see you tomorrow Grace." He said and started walking back towards the woods. Just before he disappeared I figured I should say bye for the night to. "See you tomorrow Max."
He turned around and winked at me, giving me a warm feeling in my stomach. I couldn't help but smile back.
