*******************************************A couple of hours ago Natali arrived and it's just like the past three months have never happened. We've done so much catching up all while making cookies and then grabbing hot chocolate with marshmallows, watching a ton of movies, and just talking about how life has been.
Apparently Natali doesn't really like Christina. She thought she would be a good friend at first but soon enough Christina was ignoring Natali and treating her as the scapegoat of her group.
"I'm just so tired of her pushing me around trying to make herself better in the eyes of her friends. And you know the worst part? It's actually working. They all pick on me in front of everyone and it just gets so embarrassing."
"It's going to be okay Nat, just remember I'm always here if you need me," it felt so good to finally be able to talk to her again.
"Thanks Grace, but you don't need to say that," Natali says looking down.
"But why, we're still friends...right?"
"Yes, yes, yes, but that's not it," she says looking at me and then her face lights up, "it's because I will be coming back to our group of friends. My real friends."
I sat there stunned looking at her while this gleeful grin spread across my face. I launched forwards giving her a hug, only then realizing I haven't told her about my wings and I didn't want her to find out the wrong way.
"Natali, there's something I need to tell you," she looks at me and gestures for me to continue so I say it really fast, "Ihavewings."
"Grace, slowly," and I repeat it again slowly. She looks at me like I'm crazy and I slowly slip off my hoodie so I'm just wearing a tee shirt, leaving my wings exposed. Her face turns into one of shock as I spread my wings to their full length, carful not to knock anything over as she walked towards me.
She slowly reached her hand out towards my outstretched wings and paused as if waiting for permission. I have her a nod and she reached out, her hand making contact with my right wing. It felt strange having someone else besides Max and I know about my secret. But it also felt right knowing both of my best friends knew about them. Seeming that I would be spending a lot more time with Natali at school now it was only right that she would get to know.
The rest of the night went smoothly and we had a lot of fun with everything we did until we finally drifted off at two in the morning.>>><<<
I waved goodbye to Natali at ten o'clock the next morning after we just woke up because her mother was here. We would've slept much longer but oh well, too late now.
As I turned and walked back into the house I was going to head back up to my room and sleep more, I caught sight of Max walking through my backyard towards the back door. I opened the door and motioned to him to come inside, leaving the door open for him. He walked in and he has the same look on his face whenever we are going on a little trip again. Today he looks me strait in the eye, which lets me know that he is really serious about where we're going to go. I smiled at the fact that I've begun to know him so well and waited until he told me where we were going today. After a few moments I asked where we're going.
"You'll see, but we've got to go through the woods to get there." I had to say this was new but I was happy nonetheless.
"Okay I'll go get ready now," I said before running up the stairs and into my room. After long debate I picked some light blue jeans and a black tank top with my old, very used, zip up hoodie that I love to death and will never get rid of. I added some silver bangle bracelets and my white high tops.
I joined him at the bottom of the stairs and we walked out of the house and into the woods together. About halfway through the woods we heard shuffling from behind us and I kept looking over my shoulder to see if anyone was following or not, but I couldn't see anyone. A few minutes later there was a large stick that snapped near us but I ignored it because I thought I was being paranoid.
Right after that though, I didn't hear Max walking next to me anymore. Since I was looking at the scenery, I turned around. What I saw was a grown man, maybe around his early to mid-thirties, with his hand over a struggling Max's mouth as he tried to tell me to get out of here. I wouldn't leave my best friend so I unfurled my wings and hovered a few feet above ground before going to, well I wouldn't say attack, but I went to save my friend.
Just as I flew forwards to get Max the strange man let go of him and at the speed of lightning, grabbed my wing and snapped it. I think he broke it. Since he had let go of Max, the last thing I saw before blacking out was Max running towards me as I fell and hit the ground.

The Girl Who Had Wings
General FictionI rushed to the mirror and was memorized by what I saw. Big brown griffin wings were peeking around my back. I could feel every inch of them, soft and light. Oh, and once I tried to move them, I knew right away that they were what I had been missing...
