Max's P.O.V.
I was taking her to my favorite place in the world, well, except for the woods and her platform but this one pulls ahead of the woods and platform by a shard.
"Follow me," I said smiling and turning around to lead her there. It isn't very far from where we are now, probably 5-10 minutes depending if you walk or run there. It took about 8 minutes before getting close enough so that I could surprise her.
We just had to pass a few trees to get there and I decided now was the perfect time. I jump behind her, putting my hands over her eyes. Her shriek came as quick as a lightning strike.Grace's P.O.V.
"Aaahhhh!"
I had to say, he surprised me. I didn't think he would do this. In the moment that shriek escaped my mouth, he was laughing and I could hear him laughing at my reaction the whole time.
"You seem to really enjoy this," I say, in a slightly sarcastic tone.
"Yes, yes I really am enjoying this. Your expression was priceless and your pretty adorable when your surprised." He was being very blunt. I could feel the heat creep up my cheeks, making me blush madly, and now I probably looked like a cherry. This only caused him to laugh even more.
"Keep walking, I'll lead you there. And before you start doubting me, I'm not going to let you hit anything or fall," he said. This sort of comforted me, because I knew he wouldn't let me get hurt in anyway, I could just feel it.
"Are you even going to tell me where we're going?" I asked as we started walking.
"You'll know when we get there," he said in a trading tone. He clearly enjoyed this way too much.
After a minute or two we had finally stopped and I could feel his heavy breathing on my neck from the walk down here because we had weaved through so many trees and down a couple of steeply sloped parts of the hill we had just climbed down to get here. We stood there for a moment, my eyes still covered, waiting for our heavy breathing to slow down. Finally he gathered the courage to remove his hands from their place over my eyes to see where he had brought me.
We were standing on a little pier jutting out over calm, clear water. There were a few planks missing from the tiny little pier which explains him telling me to take bigger steps sometimes. The trees around us were bursting in color, as if someone had come and painted them red, orange, and gold. The sky was a bright, azure blue, and the trees blended with the sky perfectly. The water was relatively calm, with a few ripples from small fish flitting through the water, chasing each other in circles as if they were playing tag. I could see why this was Max's favorite place, well besides the woods I guess, and I wondered why he brought me here to talk to me instead of just staying in the woods. I stand there for a few moments, taking in the surroundings and losing myself in my thoughts when I hear another chuckle. I snap out of my haze to see Max sitting on the pier in front of me.
"Well are you going to sit down or not?" He looks at me skeptically and I can feel myself going red again. I hastily sit down, avoiding sitting on any weak spots on the pier and end up sitting across from him.
We talk about some trivial things getting to know each other a bit. Like my favorite colors are blue and cream while his are some of the darker colors like dark blue, gray, and sometimes black. Apparently we had both had unique school experiences, I skipping a grade and him dropping out (I have no idea when though, he looks about my age). And we talked and talked and talked and before we knew it, it was five o'clock and apparently my mom expects my little "sessions" in the woods to only take a couple hours because she doesn't even know what I do in there. So we stand up and head back, he walks me all the way back to the edge of the forest behind my house.
I turn around to look at him and say goodbye but I'm immediately pulled into his embrace. When he finally pulls back he looks embarrassed at what had happened and happy that he had done it though. As I turn again to face my house his voice stops me.
"I just have one more question, if that's ok?" He asks, sounding slightly nervous. I turn back around to face him.
"Yeah, ask away."
"I was just wondering, because you know we never talked about it, but how old are you?"
Oh! Well I should have expected this, but I really hope there isn't much of an age gap, for reasons I can't think of right now.
"Um, I'm, um. I'm 13." I can clearly hear his sign, of what I think is relief.
"Oh, ok then, just so you know though, I'm 14. I'll see you soon Grace, bye," he says as he turns around. Right before he leaves I call out to him.
"Ok, bye Max. See you soon."********************************************
