I had just turned 13 and was feeling pretty crappy. I mean you would feel pretty bad if your dad forgot your birthday right? I walked into the busy street of Baltimore. On my way to see the only and the best friend i had: Lizzy.
Lizzy and her mom owned a restaurant/ bakery. I turned the corner and entered the building as Lizzy's mom was helping a man with a long coat that covered most of his face, the man gave me a weird look, didn't say anything and sat down to eat the cupcake he bought.
"Amanda! Happy Birthday sweetie." Lizzys mom said when she saw me in the doorway.
"I'll tell Lizzy that you're here we have a surprise for you!" Lizzy's mom disappeared into the back kitchen. The man kept looking at me, not breaking eye contact, the cupcakes still going untouched.
Just as I was going to say something to the man, Lizzy came out with her mom carrying a big cake. Red velvet. My favorite, they remembered! They started to sing 'happy birthday'
I'll admit I started to get teary eyed "Liz... Miss. Dove.. You.. You didn't have to do this" I said. My voice cracking.
"Of course we did, it is your birthday right? No blow out the candles I want to eat cake!" Lizzy said with a smile hugging me. Just as I blew out the last candle a boy burst through the door of the place. he had brown curly hair. smaller then me by a couple inches and was very skinny, my first thought was to get down thinking it was a robbery but saw that he didn't have a gun or anything, plus he was too scrawny to do much damage. Lizzy, her mom and I all ran behind the counter. the only person that didn't move with a man that has been staring at me. The boy looked at us with a panicked expression. He opened his mouth to say something but the man stood up and looked at the mysterious boy.
"Go home little satyr the girls are mine." the man said in a low voice. Then slowly he started changing.
His neck tore itself into shreds as his one head divided itself into..... 8, 8 heads!
They all tried to attack the boy. The boy jumped out of the way just in time.
"What the hell!" I yelled. Lizzy and her mom look at each other and in one move,Lizzy ripped off the necklace that I never saw her without. It was in the shape of an arrow and made of what look like gold whenever I had tried to ask about the necklace Lizzy would just try to change the topic. So at some point I just gave up. When is Lizzy broke the chain it became a brown bow and the single arrow became a quiver of arrows with golden tips.
"Amanda I need you to listen to me go with my mom. She will drive you to your house to get some clothes, then drive you to a place where you will be safe I promise. now GO!" Lizzy yelled as she jumped over the counter and started knocking arrows into the man but he kept dodging them all. One arrow almost hit the man, if only scratched one of his eight heads.
"AHHHHHHHHH" it roared.
Then Miss. Dove grabbed my hand. "We need to go honey. Don't worry Lizzy can handle this." Miss. Dove and I ran to the car and jumped in on their way to my house.
"where are we even going?" I asked. Wanting some answers.
"It's a summer camp" Miss. Dove said breaking about 20 traffic laws. "They call it Camp Half Blood."
