chapter 17: goodbye Amanda.... for now

It'd was hard to explain but by the time they all finished Amanda's dad had his head in his hands and between his legs sobbing. Mrs. Dove was crying muttering "she was a good girl.. she was a good girl." Nothing could change the fact that she was dead. Adams mom showed no emotion. She just hugged her son tight. After a while they all agreed that Adam and Lizzy needed rest, so they left the parents, mr. Brown still in tears to go to sleep.

That night the Athena cabin made a beautiful shroud that had a grey silk and small music notes. within the shroud there was a copy of her favorite book. Adam wasn't close enough to see the title but he did see was a boy holding what looked like a lighting bolt or was it a sword? Adam wasn't sure. Lizzy spoke the speech. She talked about how Amanda was a great friend and an amazing person. Even if Amanda herself didn't believe it. Lizzy couldn't make it through the speech before breaking into a full sob. When the shroud was buried everyone fanned out. Adam headed back into his cabin and Lizzy's into hers and here for the first time since Amanda's body went up in a shower of gold, Adam cried and showed emotion. Percy walked in and hugged his brother. After a while Adam told Percy what had happened. He couldn't get through the full story without his voice breaking. When Adam got to the part when Amanda's body went up in gold, Percy stopped him.

"Hold on your saying she went up in gold? Did she by any chance disappear in a shower of gold did she?" Percy asked.

"yeah she did. how.. how did you know that?" Adam asked, his voice breaking.

"well when I first came to camp I was being chased by the Minotaur." Percy explained. "well just before the Minotaur could kill my mom she disappeared in a shower of gold. Kinda like Amanda did."

"but your mom's alive." Adam said clearly confused.

"exactly! When she disappeared in a shower of gold, that meant that Hades had her. This means Amanda could still be alive! Hades must have her." Percy said and for the first time in days Adam smiled. After thanking his brother he ran out to the Apollo cabin and knocked on the door. A very red eyed and tried Lizzy opened the door.

"Adam I know your upset I am too but what in hades are you doing at 2:00am in the morning?!" Lizzy said in a tone that said.'This better be good or your ending up with a black eye.'

"Amanda may be alive! Ill explain later but right now." Adam looked at Lizzy in the eye. "we are going to the underworld and we are getting Amanda back."

Authors note: well this is the last chapter for children of Athena im going to be making a new follow up book for this called the lost soul hope you enjoy it. This was my first book so the beginning is a little crappy I know but I'm hoping that as I write more books I become a better writer thanks everyone!!
