You shiver slightly upon going outside. It was warmer since you have just been inside the air conditioned clinic but at this time of the day and being in the 'Ber' months there was a slight chill in the air. Maybe you can stop by your locker and get the spare hoodie you keep there. The wind was cold too and the campus was eerily quiet. Somewhere you heard a slight sound but you weren't sure of its exact location.
You remember Gino's raised brows as he saw you standing from your seat as though he couldn't believe that you really were going on your own.
It wasn't as if he would go with you right? That brat.
He tried giving you the small knife which was earlier by the sink but you refused, scandalized. What if you were caught with a weapon? That would mean immediate expulsion.
You tried to tell him that but he looked at you like you were nuts and told you to just go to your death. You gritted your teeth. Were you holding that knife you'd have shoved it in him.
From what were you even supposed to protect yourself from anyway? You shiver as you walk towards the stairs near the clinic. From Mr. Manuel's description those were clearly sick people that needed help. You remember the news about the outbreak of a virus of sorts. But it was just some sort of violent flu right?
Sure there were people who died, but it was contained right? you ask yourself again. They definitely said that there were fewer victims and a cure was underway.
You put a hand on your other arm to try and rub the goosebumps away. You try to walk your way up silently with your other hand brushing through the walls. You continue your way up, passing the door to the faculty office on the second floor.
Through the darkened glass you thought you saw the outline of people but you didn't stop by. Maybe you could drop by later and talk to your class adviser if he were ever there. After all it seemed like you've missed a lot yesterday.
You continue up, two more flights of stairs. Your classroom was on the fourth floor after all. Finally you've reached the last flight of stairs to your destination. There was another set of stairs which goes to the fifth floor but there were iron grilles blocking the way up. There weren't any classrooms there anyway and it just leads to the mini zoo.
The corridor before you contains unused classrooms while the one to your right leads to the third years' classrooms. You were shocked, the usually pristine corridor was littered with chairs and school stuffs. There was something in the air, a metallic stench that was somehow causing your stomach to flip.
At the other end you see another student standing with her back to you. There was something odd about the way she was standing. And when she tried to move, it was more like she was swaying or staggering.
What the heck, is that girl drunk? There was also something familiar about her, like her hair and that blue band on her wrist.
It suddenly dawned on you, that was your fellow third year Dana from the other section. The bubbly girl with the pretty smile and who was friends with everybody. So ultimately she was your close friend too. But then she swayed a bit and you noticed the blood dripping from her to the floor.
"Da-" You called but a hand clamped to your mouth and dragged you to the classroom beside you.
"Shit, I think she heard you." Gino's voice whispered on your ear. You were both crouched down behind the wall that separates you from Dana. You broke from Gino's hold on your mouth and peeked on the window just above you.
Oh, good Lord. What the actual-
You duck back down and bit your lips to keep yourself from making any sound. That was Dana alright, or used to be at least if this really isn't some twisted joke played on you by the staff and the students. Maybe this is something like that show you used to watch years ago where they scared the 'victim' so bad and then after that ask something along the lines of, "Are you scared?"
You used to think that show hilarious but now, by the time Gino asks you that question you're sure you'd beat him up so bad. This. Isn't. Funny.
The girl walking-staggering on the corridor outside had barely any cheeks left. Pieces of meat that used to be the muscles she used to smile with now hung uselessly down her chin. Oh, and the blood.
Blood flowed down to her front which was a mess of meat chunks and bones. You think you've even seen some parts of her innards.
You've made a small squeak and Gino immediately put his hand to keep your mouth shut. Honestly you didn't mind because it was as if the crackers you ate earlier were making their way back up to your mouth.
You look up again through the window openings and your heart almost stopped. You did not just make eye contact with the walking corpse of Dana Faylon. Oh no nononono... You duck your head back down and closed your eyes, praying fervently while your heart thudded on your chest.
Nothing happened. After a while you could feel Gino relaxing a bit, "Faylon's gone. Or what used to be her anyway."
You peek cautiously on the open door. True enough, your ex-friend (ex since the girl obviously isn't herself anymore and not because you don't consider her as one) is already staggering towards the end of the corridor where you came from.
"You know Dana?"
"I just saved you from being eaten by a zombie and that's all you have to ask?" he shook his head disbelievingly. "Who doesn't know her?"
You stood up cautiously and saw the blood on the floor. On the cluster of chairs shoved to the far end of the room lay something suspiciously like a person's body. You see the leg and the shoes, a third year boy. You shiver, of course he would be someone you know. The body didn't move and you don't really want to find out if it will or not so you walk towards the door and looked if there were any of those...'things' out there.
"Where are you going? I thought you were going to get your bag." You look at Gino and see that he's holding a metal pipe and the knife from the clinic on his other hand. Suddenly being armed seemed to be a brilliant idea to you.
"This isn't my classroom," you explain. He held out the knife to you and this time you took it and grasped it uncertainly with your right hand.
"Let's go get it then," he said simply.
Making sure that there weren't any zombie nearby, he walked out and motioned for you to follow him as he ducked and walked in a crouch just outside of your section's classroom.
There were two doors, one closed and the other one slightly ajar. And of course you can hear the moaning from the inside.
Gino looked at you with an apprehensive expression on his face, "Looks like you're late. I think your classmates are already in, Y/N."
