"Stephen!" you ran towards him but there was a bit of a distance between you. He was struggling with the older man who was intent on taking a bite out of him.

You take out the knife while running and lunged at the zombie while Stephen screamed.

He did not scream because of your action though. Mr. Hipolito had just torn a piece of his shoulder off. The librarian fell off Stephen and you put a hand on his arm as he sagged to the floor. He clutched a hand to his shoulder and you take the knife out of the zombie's head. You wiped the blood off using the zombie's clothes.

Beside you, Stephen gave a broken sob. You stood up and offered him your hand but he ignored it. You straightened and gave a hesitant step towards the office. It was littered with papers and there was blood all over it. There was a couch and you see Stephen entering the room and sitting down.

He didn't say a word as you checked the dead man's desk for something useful. This was becoming a thing now, looking through dead people's things. You silently say a prayer and Mr. Hipolito's forgiveness as you shoved his small medical pouch on your bag. You find two packs of crackers and shoved that to your bag too. You hesitate, not knowing if Stephen would want one.

According to Gino once you get bitten it's only a matter of time before you turn into one of those too. But you don't know if you can say that to the guy sitting dejectedly on the couch.

There weren't anything else useful but you think that maybe the ornate letter opener can be used as a weapon.

"He had always been a kind person y'know?"

You turn to Stephen who had spoken softly. He wasn't looking at you but at his bloody hands.

"I know," you said to him. Mr. Hipolito had a kind smile and was pleasant to everyone. You pick up the letter opener and gave it to Stephen.

"He convinced the principal to give me the scholarship after all." He continued.

For a second you realized that he might stab you for putting down the librarian but he just clutched the item at his chest and cried.

"I only wanted to help him y'know?"

"I know," you said simply. The boy you saw earlier who worked with such zeal proved that.

You didn't want to leave him like this but you know that it's too late for him. Even if he didn't turn into a zombie immediately, it was likely that he'll bleed out first.

You closed the door of the office behind you with a sigh. It was a small blessing that there was no one else here that would open that cursed door to the kiddie section, you thought darkly.

Now, you just have to go outside and run to your locker to get your stuff before going down to the clinic. What important stuff do you have in your locker anyway? You thought for a while if the contents are worth it.

Your books and notebooks take most of the space but you don't need that. There's a four-inch thick dictionary in there but you doubt it can make much damage to the undead. Your jogging pants and P.E. t-shirt were there of course. There's also a pair of wooden arnis* but you also doubt its usefulness in killing zombies. Still it could be handy as long as it's not broken. What else? Oh and potato chips, you snort.

(arnis – wooden poles that are used in combat. Usually part of P.E. exercises in highschool)

Still holding your knife you open the door slightly to take a look outside. There were a few and one was just outside the door. There were also the zombie 'mess' cluttered all over the floor so you have to be careful on where you step.

You swing the door with force to try and knock the zombie but it just staggered a bit. You started to run or atleast try to as you dodged the ones on the floor. It was just like walking through a minefield, not that you've ever done that but you feel that this is just the same. One wrong step and you're dead.

You run and turn at the bend. There were a couple of zombies on that corridor but the lockers were all lined there so you have no choice but to put them down if you want to get your stuff.

It is not something you'd look forward to.
