"What's taking her so long?" Gino thought to himself. He had been inside the clinic since three in the afternoon. He knew Y/N still had about two hours to get in there but she's been out there for hours. She hadn't died, did she?
The junior didn't look like much but he had seen her determination to get out of here. She may be foolish in hoping for something unlikely but he admired that determination. That was the reason why he had chosen to help her in the first place.
It wasn't like he didn't want for this nightmare to end and get the hell out of here but he was in no hurry to do so. Unlike Y/N he didn't have people who were worried sick about him, if they were still alive that is. He was just doing this, killing zombies in order to survive.
He didn't mind it. He knew that there was something wrong with him if he thought of this as therapeutic but he didn't feel that bad whenever the metal in his hands connected with someone's head. After all, it was necessary. It was them or him.
Excuses, the voice in his head taunted him.
It wasn't easy for him to get back after having the zombies run after him. He had thought to run down the stairs but seeing the zombies crowded on the landing, he had taken the flight up instead.
He'd flung open the auditorium doors to be pushed out by crazed students. Yes, there were living students up in the fifth floor. And they weren't very welcoming for it seemed he had brought the monsters upon them.
They didn't have any choice though, so they let him in and barricaded the door since it seemed a lot had decided to go after Gino.
Fourth years, Gino recognized most of them. And some gradeschool students. They looked frightened and the seniors looked fierce and menacing. That was good, they seemed really protective of the young ones.
Only the barricade didn't hold and the lot came swarming in. They fought but there were so little you can do with crude weapons and a lot of kids to protect.
It became a blur to Gino. A nightmare scene unfolded right before his eyes.
He had tried. Tried to help and save the kids. But then there was no body to save and all there was left to do was run.
And now he waited. He blinked and looked to see Mr. Manuel coming out of the isolation room, wiping a knife with a cloth.
"Oh, you're already here, kid. Where's girlie?"
The digital clock read 3:30.
"I don't know, Sir."
Mr. Manuel sighed and went to the 'wet' area. Gino could hear him rummaging under the sink and he closed his eyes again and leaned back on the chair.
3:45.
"The school service was inside the gate. We should be able to use it." Mr. Manuel said. Gino opened his eyes to see the man rummaging inside the nurse's desk. He murmured his agreement and drummed his fingers on the arm of the chair. Even with his eyes wide he can see the child, about third grade, getting eaten by the zombie. It was all his fault.
Over the dripping of the water on the sink he thought he can hear the screaming again. He looked up at the wall again: 4:00.
Y/N thinks they can get out alive. Gino snorted, she didn't even believe him at first and thought he was making it all up to mess with her. He chuckled and saw Mr. Manuel glancing at him. He shook his head and the older man returned to rummaging on the small tool bag that was strapped on his belt.
They would've still be alive if only he didn't come inside that room.
He thought of Mr. Manuel, Y/N and himself. They can't all end up dead right? Surely there was still hope, even if only one of them survives in the end.
4:30.
He opened the door of the clinic, just a crack. The school ground was a bit foggy but it couldn't be: It wasn't that cold so it must be made of smog. He cursed silently when he noticed the distant shapes moving. There was a lot of them and collected out in that open field wasn't good.
Then he heard it. A distant scream somewhere in the building. A female scream. Y/N.
There was no time to think about it. Carrying only the slightly bent metal pipe on his hand, he ran.
he:_
