"'Cause I am lost without you, I cannot live at all. My whole world surrounds you, I stumble, then I crawl."
Liam wakes up alone, and it's just not fair.
He doesn't think rationally, and he never has. There's not a note, Niall always leaves a note. There's no body by his side, no warmth or comfort. The lights in the master bathroom are off, and the door is wide open. Niall is nowhere to be seen.
It's worrying, for sure, and Liam doesn't know how to handle anything right now. His love has gone, has left, just like Liam used to leave. It's stupid, so stupid, to think that Niall wouldn't come back to him, but he can't think straight. It's even more stupid to think that this one some twisted form of revenge. But Liam's just a tad bit fucked up in the mental area, and of course it would be just like him to think the worst of the situation.
He calls Niall first, and it rings a few times, but ends up going to voicemail.
"Hi, Niall," Liam breathes steadily after the beep, digging his nails into the palms of his free hand. "I don't mean to bother you, but...I woke up without you, and you know how that makes me feel...I think I thought the worst. But I know you better than that...you wouldn't leave. You'll be back soon, right? I miss you. I want to hold you. Please? I love you..."
He hangs up. It doesn't seem to click at first, that he may have played it on a bit thick. His brain didn't come up with the possibility as he spoke. The words just spilled from his mouth, without any consent to what he was actually thinking.
Louis is the second one he dials, and his band mate does answer - it's nine in the morning, and he shouldn't be awake, but hell if Liam pays any attention.
"Li?" the elder boy drawls thickly, voice heavy. "Why are you up at this hour?"
"Had to talk to you," Liam replies without thinking about how his voice sounds - cracked and dry, like he isn't hydrated well enough. He hears Louis sigh. "Please, mate...I don't want to bother you, but I just need to...vent."
Louis sighs again, "Ah, mate, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound so annoyed. I'm not, I promise. Just give me a second."
Liam listens closely. He hears Louis shifting, the squeak of a bed, and a door sliding shut. Louis speaks again, "Sorry, I just had to move to the balcony. Harry's still asleep. Now, go ahead - I'm all ears."
"I think...I think I..."
"Yes...?"
The thing is, Louis doesn't sound impatient. It really does sound like he wants to hear, or at least he's pretending to care about what Liam says. And, yeah, Louis isn't really a serious lad - so, after all this is over, Liam might invite Louis out to lunch or something and try to get the older lad to talk about something funny. He needs it. They both need it.
Liam sighs, shaking from his spot on the bed. "I want to...marry Niall..."
It takes Louis a few seconds, but there's suddenly a gasp - one that clearly says that this is not a good idea. "Liam, don't you-?"
"It's not too soon!" Liam protests loudly, knowing all too well what his friend was going to say. "You must think I'm crazy, but I'm not. I've known him for almost three years, and I want to marry him. I love him."
"Liam-,"
"And who knows," Liam's voice sounds panicky now, as he rambles on, completely ignoring anything Louis has to say about this. "He could be cheating on me! He's always running off with Zayn, and he comes back smelling just like that idiot. He wasn't here when I woke up this morning - he's always there! He probably ran off with Zayn again, because that's all he ever does. He denied having sex with me because of him!"
