Dinner with my father and my boyfriend was amazing. My dad took to Heck like a moth to a flame and I couldn't believe it either, but at the same time who doesn't like Heck. He's handsome and charming and he has a way with words and I'm not just saying that because I'm in love with the guy no, it's all true.
I look from the kitchen and watch my dad and Heck talk by the door and I can't help but smile. "Holly." I turn around and Taylor is running towards me in his pajamas.
"What's up," I say turning my entire body towards him.
"I can't sleep could you help me." I give him a small smile.
"Sure." I reach for his small hand and he takes it. We walk back to his room and he drops my hand and scrambles into bed. "I'm going to sing you a song " I turn off the lights and turn on his night light. "Ready?" He nods as he brings the cover to his chin.
Your hand fits in mine
like it's made just for me
But bear this mind it was meant to be
And I'm joining up the dots
with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me
I know you've never loved the crinkles by your eyes when you smile,
You've never loved your stomach or your thighs
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I'll love them endlessly
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if I do, it's you, oh it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things
When I'm done he's fast asleep and he's so adorable. "That was beautiful." I turn around startled at the voice.
"Dad, you scared me."
"I'm sorry, you sound just like your mother. She'd sing to you and I'd sneak up on her and listen. It was a beautiful sound, her voice, I miss it." I get to my feet and walk over to the door and usher my dad out of the room before shutting Taylor's door. I wanna be sure not to wake him.
"I do too. Were did Heck go?"
"He told me to tell you that he's wanted at home and he will call you later. I like that boy, he's a smart kid." I just smile and shake my head.
"I'm going to run on down to the hospital and visit Cassie if that's alright."
He raises an eyebrow "Look at you its only been a day that things are starting to look up and your already behaving and asking for permission to go out, would ya look at that." I roll my eyes.
"I just don't want her to be alone especially when she wakes up." He gives me a fatherly smile.
"Go on. I have work in the morning, taking off today really cut into my schedule." I look away and frown. I knew this new understanding, caring dad wouldn't last. One day with us and he's already ready to run for the hills. Typical. "But I couldn't regret it even if I tried, this has been one of the best days in years." I look up at him almost alarmed and shocked at the same time, but if he can tell he doesn't show it he just pulls me into his arms and holds me tightly. "I love you Holly so much and I couldn't stand the thought of losing you as well."
"I love you too." He kisses my head and pulls away. I blink back my unnecessary tears and smile. "Night honey."
"Night." With that, he retreats to his room and I head out to my car.
