Jared's POV:

I couldn't wait until I was the Alpha of the pack. My father would never do things the way I wanted them to go. Back then, if I was the alpha, Avery would be right by my side. But of course, my stubborn father wouldn't let me go in to save her.

That day, I remembered feeling as though a part of me was snatched away from me brutally. Avery.

I had watched in horror as one of those disgraceful rogues hit the poor, defenceless child in the head, knocking her out cold. My mind filled with thoughts of outrage and sadness. Why Avery? Out of anyone they could take, why her?!

Flashback:

My dad gripped onto me tightly, making sure I couldn't escape from his grasp. Poor Avery was close to us, I could almost reach out and go to her. She looked terrified though. All I wanted was to stand with her and comfort her.

I struggled against my dad but it was no use. I, a teenager, was no match against my dad, an Alpha with a bunch of experience. He tightened his hold on me, making me wince.

"Gregory, you want this Rogue?" Questioned my father. Venom laced his tone and his eyes were serious. Both Gregory and my father hated each other.

"Well that would be nice. Hand her over." He smirked at us, only then shifting his gaze to Avery. Her mouth had formed an "o" shape as she realised what was going on.

A member of our pack shoved her forward. As he did so, I noticed a remorseful look on his face. Avery gasped a little at the way he'd shoved her across so roughly. I wanted to punch him so bad. Although, it wasn't his fault. It was my father's.

"Let her go! Dad, bring her back!" I yelled desperately. I tried pulling away from my father's grip again but it was no use. Avery was with the rogues now. I couldn't fight for her alone.

Gregory's filthy hand was clenched over Avery's shoulder. She couldn't run or struggle away from him. I didn't want to see her like that. It angered me so much that he had even touched her, let alone take her away.

"Jared! Help me!" She called out in an attempt to escape.

Too late.

It was all over. I watched in horror as a rogue with a twisted grin, hit her in the head, silencing her. Her frail body fell to the floor and landed with a thump at Gregory's feet. A sick feeling was in my stomach. How could they?

Rip them apart! Blaze growled furiously. Even with Blaze going on at me, I knew it was hopeless. She was gone.

End of Flashback

That memory haunted me every time I thought of her. Every time I closed my eyes I heard her little voice shout out.
"Jared! Help me!"
I couldn't believe I was so weak as to let her go. Who knows what she would've been through whilst living with the Rogues.

Jared, your father wants to see you in his office. Someone mind linked me.

I sighed mentally and got out of my chair. What did he want now? All the time he wanted me to run errands for him, claiming it to be 'preparing me for when I would be Alpha'.
Yeah right. He just wanted someone to get his coffee or to deliver stuff to the pack house. Best father ever.

As I walked to his office, the smell of coffee became more clear. He always drank it. Especially when he was pulling all nighters for his pack business.

I knocked on the door loudly just to annoy him.
"Name and business." A gruff voice responded.
"Jared." I said and pushed open the door, not bothering with the last part.

My father sighed loudly and straightened a pile of papers before putting it inside a draw.
Tch, ocd much?
I grinned mentally at my wolf. He didn't like my dad at all so he gave a little sly comment at any opportunity.

"Ah, Jared. You got the message then." He said. Not bothering with a 'hey son, how are you then?' eh?

"That would probably be why I'm here." I muttered, rolling my eyes.

"Typical teenager." Father shook his head. "Maybe you'll change your tone when you hear of some news I have."

"Depends. What sort of news?" I questioned slowly. I leaned forward a bit in my chair.

"Some news," he paused for effect, looking up at me rather than the desk," about Avery."

My eyes were saucers. He had my full attention. Avery? My Avery?!

"This better be good," I growled. He chuckled a little at my response.

"Well, if you consider her whereabouts good news then you'll be quite the happy fellow." He told me, sliding a piece of paper across the neatly polished desk.

I scanned the paper. It was definitely Avery. For sure. All of her details were on there. Including a photograph. Damn, she'd grown up a bit. Of course I still recognised her. I'd know her from anywhere.

Name: Avery
Age: 14 years.
Height: 5" 1'
Hair: Blonde

Then of course, the location. It contained it down the bottom of the page. I recognised it and knew how to get there. The page also showed a picture of the place she lived. It looked a little blurry,  as though taken from afar in a hurry.

Avery, I thought, I promise I'll find you. We'll be together again.
