Slowly, my eyes opened. Inside my room, on the expensive looking dressing table was a pile of clothes. Someone must have come in when I was asleep or something.

By the time I had woken up, it was daytime. The bright, golden sun was shining through my windows. I could hear the birds chirping and loud but happy voices coming from outside. It made me smile to myself how everyone seemed to be so happy in this place. It was their home after all.

I wandered over to the wardrobe where I start moving in some of my clothes that were originally on the dressing table. Once they were all in I felt as though it was actually my room. Not some empty room I couldn't call home.

Something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. I looked over and saw some black clothes. For Joel's funeral. I let out a huge sigh and picked up the clothes, taking in every little detail. It was a beautiful black dress. Probably went to just above my knees. Around the waist, there was a strip of silk that would be tied into a bow. Just above, on the chest area was some nice looking designs. Overall, I liked the dress. It would be a good impression to wear in front of the pack.

There was an abrupt knock on the door, making me jump out of my skin and gasp a little. A voice on the other side told me that breakfast would be ready and to go downstairs to get it. They also said to be dressed in the funeral clothes due to the funeral being in a few hours.

I nodded even though they couldn't see it and immediately felt stupid. Anyway, I started getting dressed, slipping the dress on over my skinny, frail body. If anyone saw my body under my clothes, they would see the ribcage showing because of the lack of food I got. Perhaps I would put on some weight now that I was in a safe, proper home.

I sat at the dressing table and pinned my hair back in a bun, putting a black hat on my head with a bit of netting coming down from a black flower. I looked very sophisticated in that outfit.

I looked in the mirror at my appearance. My eyes had small black marks beneath them from stress and hardly any sleep so I put a little make up on to hide it. Then I took a deep breath, tucked back a stray strand of hair and walked out, heading down to breakfast.

Jared was sitting a long mahogany table and a pack member placed a plate of food in front of him. He put down his newspaper and tucked into his food. Both his parents were already eating their meal. They all looked up at me as I walked in. I tried not to meet their gaze as I sat down as I was extremely nervous.

"Ah, Avery. You look so beautiful my dear!" Squealed Jared's mother. She was a very pretty woman. Despite her age, her hair was still a walnut brown colour that had been curled, just reaching below her shoulders. Her eyes twinkled as she smiled at me.

I couldn't help but smile back. She seemed to be a very likeable woman.

"Thank you miss."

A plate of food was placed in front of me and my eyes widened. So much food! It was more than I would've got in a whole day for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

"Thank you!" I said to the pack member and immediately dug into it.
I ate the food extremely fast, stuffing it down my throat. Everyone was watching me in amusement; all except Jared's dad. He looked a bit annoyed.

"You must have been very hungry dear, I wouldn't blame you!" His wife said. I nodded briefly.

Around ten minutes later, a pack member, who I presumed to be third in command, came in and told us the funeral car was waiting outside.

Jared gave me a reassuring smile and took my hand. I squeezed it and started walking over to the car. The Alpha and Luna got in it first, then Jared and I. As the car drove along, I peered out the window, admiring the beauty of the Pack's territory. All the while, I felt Jared's eyes on me. Was there something wrong?

"I wanted to say you look so beautiful today, Avery," He whispered in my ear.

My heart skipped a beat when I heard those words. Jared called me beautiful! I couldn't believe it!

But then, my heart felt as though it was torn out of my chest and stamped on. The car stopped outside the church and waiting there was a girl, around sixteen or seventeen years old. She saw our car stop and started waving at Jared as he got out of the car. Was that his... Girlfriend?!

Why did I even care? I felt so hollow, so angry. But why?

The girl ran up to Jared and quickly kissed him on the cheek. Oh hell no! She started smiling at him and flicked her (obviously dyed) blonde hair over her shoulder.

"Missed you babe!" She smirked.

I was so annoyed. And jealous. I was the one that spent all that time in the woods with Jared. I was the one he tried saving from the rogues. Not her! Then it hit me. I was in love with Jared. I was jealous of the girl.
