All I could do was run. I had to get him to safety before the rogues got to us. I didn't even know his name but I could tell he wasn't deceitful. I mean, Jared sent him, right?
"Turn left, quickly!" He said suddenly. I skidded along the dirt and made a dash to the left, the man almost tumbling off. His hand grasped my fur a little more after that incident. If wolves could cringe, I would have.
Finally though, after a while of running, my adrenaline had faded and I was panting heavily. He got off my back and I laid down on the ground. I let out a long sigh of relief as he gestured towards a cave, furnished with a cupboard and a few mats to sleep on.
I willed myself to get up and dragged my tired body over to a faded blue mat. It had a few comfy cushions and pillows on it so I was quite content to sleep there.
"Shift back, Avery," he said.
Sleepily, I raised my head and blinked at him. I didn't know how to do it.
"Just got to sleep. When you wake up, you'll probably have shifted back. But after that, you have to learn to do it yourself." He explained. I nodded curtly and went underneath the blanket for warmth. For once, I fell asleep feeling safe and protected.

My eyes opened slowly. I remembered everything from the previous day and looked up to see the man sitting outside the cave. He must have been guarding all night. Poor guy. Having to babysit a random kid must have been tough.
That's when I realised I wasn't a wolf anymore. He was right I guess. My long hair was in tangles, running down my back in a sea of golden locks. I longed to brush it out so it was lovely and soft but I couldn't. We were on the run and there was no time to get my things together.
"Oh, you're awake," he stated, walking back into the cave.
I nodded curtly at him and he threw some clothes at me. I sighed tiredly before putting them on. Silently, he gave me some food. I definitely needed it. I mumbled a quick thanks before wolfing it down.
"So... You never told me your name," I said, munching on the last piece of food he gave me.
"And why should I?" He smirked.
I let out a little growl at him and he pretended to be scared of me. That got me annoyed. Why wasn't he scared? I didn't think he was a werewolf due to him not shifting when we were on the run.
"I'm a psychic. I can read thoughts and stuff like that." He stated, keeping a serious expression on his face.
"So, no dirty thoughts girly. I could hear you thinking of Jared the whole way. It's obvious you love him."
My face turned bright red. He heard all that?! I was so embarrassed. This man was something else! Literally!
"Well, anyway, I only know your name is Avery. It's all they told me. Care to enlighten me with anything else?" He shrugged.
"Nah. Not till I at least hear your name." Again, he smirked at me.
I really hated that.
"So, Avery, have you met your wolf yet?" He questioned. At last he was being serious. Thank god for that.
Hello.
Said a voice.
I jumped back and my spine hit the wall of the cave. I bit my lip to stop a little cry of pain escaping my mouth. Mr Anonymous decided to just sit there and watch me as I completely panicked.
Shh. What an earth are you doing?!
The voice. It was in my head. I was going crazy! Jared would send me to a mental institute or something like that! I was freaking out so bad!
It's only me, Avery. I'm your wolf. My name is Isla.
Wolf? That's what he was talking about just before. I looked up to see him with a giant grin on his face. He knew what was going on!
"Surprise?" He gave me some jazz hands.
Jazz hands. What the hell. In a serious situation he gives me jazz hands. This man needed help.
"Well, now you have met your wolf and everything, we should get going. I don't want those rogues finding us." He groaned and stretched his arms above his head.
I nodded and got up. I grabbed his backpack he'd left on the floor and carried it outside for him.
Luckily for us, he'd parked a jeep just five minutes away near a dirt road. I really wasn't in the mood for walking.
"Well, come on kiddo. Lets go!" He patted me on the back and got into the driver side of the car.
I climbed in and laid back in the seat. I was still sleepy after the big chase the previous day. It was a tiring experience for a kid like me to go through!
Silently, we drove through the forest. It had started to get dark again a while after and I was a little scared that the rogues would be right outside our window. Back at the rogue territory I always had Celia with me to comfort me...
"Celia!" I sat bolt upright.
"Woah kiddo, what's up?" The man asked, looking very concerned.
"My friend. Her name's Celia and we've left her behind!" I explained, panic rising in my voice. Poor Celia. She'd helped me out so much and yet I'd just left her behind.
"Kid..." He started. "I'm sorry," his voice sounded full of guilt and regret as he looked back at the road ahead.
"Your friend... After you started attacking those rogues, she tried helping you..."
"No... That isn't right," I laughed humourlessly. It couldn't have been true. Celia...
She was a fighter! She wouldn't have been killed just like that. Celia would have escaped from them, or maybe just be put in the cells for a day or two...
"Kiddo, I'm really sorry but I saw it with my own eyes. They killed her. The rogues killed her."
