Their first kiss happened almost accidently, and very fast.Dean strummed his guitar gently, tuning it. The higher ups of this fine institution had wanted to take away Dean's beautiful instrument, but Dean not only protested but fought for it. Finally the staff decided to let him keep it because really, what harm was he doing with it?
Castiel sat next to him, looking at one of his new sketches. His eyes searched every line, analyzing it like it was a math problem, or an expensive piece of art and he is trying to find out if it was genuine. Dean tried to hide his nervousness, but it was hard when he was sitting still, which is why he had taken out the guitar. He realized he was picking out the tune of a song he had learned specifically for Sam, Drive by Incubus. Sam had always loved songs like that, with meanings to the words and a soft but harsh beat to it. It was difficult, even for someone as experienced as Dean, but he now had it down. He hummed underneath his breath, strumming the last few notes before clasping his fingers over the strings to still them.
"So what do you think?" Cas held up a finger, his eyes still roaming the page, and Dean scoffed at that gesture. He began to pick at his instrument again, this time singing gently, too softly for Cas to hear. Or so he thought. He was in the middle of the song when he noticed that not only was Cas completely silent but also still. He raised his eyes from the bed and saw that his dark blue eyes were on him. Fascination burned behind the brilliant color of his pupil and Dean couldn't help but gulp, the nervousness back.
"What?" Cas smirked, the corner of his lips peeking up and his eyes slanting. He looked much more attractive when he did that, in a mischievous way.
"Sing some more." Dean laughed, his nervousness easily detectable behind it.
"No way. You weren't supposed to even hear that." Cas scoffed, rolling his eyes.
"I've heard you sing before, you do it before we go to bed all the time."
"Yea, but that's different."
"How?" Dean gulped, looking away from him. He scratched his neck, the edge of his hairline, trying to think. He didnt really know why he didn't like singing in front of a lone person. He could do groups, even small groups of three, but when someone asked him to sing alone, just them looking, critizing everything you do.... that's when Dean became frightened.
Cas seemed to have picked up his uncomfortableness because he leaned forward, setting his hand against his bicep in a comforting manner.
"Hey, I'm sorry. Its okay, you don't have to." Dean nodded, and Cas smiled, a very different way that he had done before.
"But if you sing for me, I'll tell you what I think about this picture." He tapped the sketch pad with his knuckles, still smiling. Dean glanced at the picture, noting the small blemishes that no artist could escape. He thought it over, trying to gain his nerve back.
Its only a song. And Its Cas. He thought, trying to make the small bubble of fear in his stomach dissipate. Dean nodded, gulping so hard he could feel his Adams apple move, and picked at the strings a little bit. He tried to think of what song to sing, when the obvious choice came to him. He situated the beautiful wood along his legs, leaning over and making his hands lay against the strings as he tried to remember the chords. He struck one, then the other, then played an entire chord, just to warm up. Cas had situated himself against one of the support beams of the bed, looking around the entirely empty room. They've had many moments like this one, completely alone. Not many people want to spend their free time inside their prison. He suddenly thought of Gabriel, and his promise to get them out for a few hours, and his fear dissapeared. In it's place came a rush of pleasure and happiness and he began to play the songs intro. Cas looked to him when this started, his blue eyes boring into him.
"Today is gonna be the day that their gonna throw it back to you." His voice rose and fell delicately, following the notes that Sam had taught him. This was the song that he learned to not just hum along but sing, and how to learn to sing them correctly. He kept singing, his eyes closing instinctively, but he could feel Castiels eyes on him.
"The word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out." His voice crackled on the last word but he continued on, not even missing a beat. He felt the words, the rhyme flowing through his being, his body, his soul, and he breathed before going on to the chorus.
The chorus is his favorite part, and he truly belted it out. It was over as soon as it began, and he felt a little sad as he began the next verse. His fingers were so calloused that they didn't ever hurt, used to be against the strings.
"I say maybe, you' re gonna be the one who saves me. And after all, you're my wonderwall." he started the ending chords, and then finally the song was over. He waited a minute, letting his heartbeat calm before opening his eyes.
Cas's eyes were wide, and staring at him. Dean resisted the urge to look away, and stared back until he couldn't take the silence nor the look on his face.
"What?" Cas shook his head, smiling down at the sheets.
"You know, you always memorize me with your voice. Its magical, ya know?" Dean blushed a bright scarlet, the color reaching up toward his face from underneath his black collar. Cas was the only person who could make Dean Winchester blush, and when he found this superpower he took advantage of it.
"Dean, can I kiss you?" Dean started, shocked by the sudden change of the conversation. He felt flattered by the question. No one had ever asked him if they could kiss him, usually just kissing him even if it was obvious he didn't want that. He sat silently for a moment, letting these thoughts gather and roam in his head before he realized he never answered.
He smiled wide, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he told him a quick yes, and he slowly moved toward him, moving closer.
He looked deep into his eyes, and let their lips brush softly. Electricity buzzed in his veins, and his instincts took over. He leaned toward him, deepening the kiss. His fingers gently wrapped around the base of his head, tangling in the soft downy hairs at the nape of his soft neck. Cas smiled against his lips, and placed his palm against his thigh, rubbing the pad of his thumb along the skin that showed through the rip in them, conveniently placed high up on his thigh, below the inside of his pocket. Dean couldn't lie, he loved the feel of his hand on his thigh a little too much.
They parted too soon for Deans liking, not even giving any tongue. Castiel smiled, his cheeks aflame and his eyes wide and wild. Dean felt a flurry of satisfaction flutter in his chest at the sight, and he sighed gently.
"That was....." Dean trailed off, unable to think of a word that adequately described the feelings still rushing through his system. Cas laughed, nodding in agreement.
He leaned back against the beam again, but this time his leg was stretched out, laying on top of both of his. The other was laying beside his leg, but the same zipping feeling of heat spread from his toes to his lips.
"Now, this picture...." he began talking about the good things about it, nothing coming out of his mouth negative...... and Dean listened as hard as he could, smiling from time to time at the formal language that sometimes leaked into his sentences, showing just how intelligent he really was.
