Thankfully though, the words came out more like a mumble. I quickly lifted my head to see if Aaron had heard me, but he hadn't. Drake, on the other hand, had heard me just fine and was shaking his head. Two disappointing acts in less than an hour, hmm, good going.

I cleared my throat and spoke again.
"It's getting late, I need to go back home."

"Of course, I'm glad you came. Remember, you're always welcome." Aaron smiled at me. "And so are pizzas."

I laughed in the most silliest way possible and nodded. Drake stood up and looked at me, "need a ride?"

"Actually, no. Melanie will drop me." I smiled, "but, thank you."

"You both seem very close, how long have you known each other?" Aaron asked, as we made our way to the door.

"Four long years!" Drake said and I rolled my eyes. I turned to look at Aaron one last time before we were out of the door.

"Wait!" Adrian spoke up, his face all serious. "Don't you want to know the answer?"

I swallowed hard. Aaron looked at me, then at Adrian and back to me. "Huh?"

"You weren't audible before. Ask again."

"It's fine. I-"

"Sarah. Ask him or I will."

Adrian seemed bent on making me look stupid. But a small part of me wanted to know the answer to that question anyway. So I pulled a brave face on and spoke up.

"Alright," I sighed. Aaron raised his eyebrow at me, the gesture not helping a bit. "Do you have a girlfriend?"

Aaron stared at me for a moment, unblinking. I wanted to duck behind Drake, more embarrassed than ever. Then I heard him laugh, out loud. I sneaked a glance at him, just to make sure, and watched as he threw his head back, laughing.

"Really, Sarah, you are crazy!" He managed to say in between his laughing fit.

I was so embarrassed, I decided to hide in my room forever and to never have interact with another human ever again. Adrian, the cause of all this, whispered - a little too audibly for my taste - to Aaron, who nodded and turned to me.

"Contrary to what the media says," he started, sending my heart on a rage, "I don't."

Seeing the expression on my face change from embarrassment to confusion, he continued. "I don't have a girlfriend, Sarah."

The way he smiled at me should have shut me up for good, but my mouth seemed to have gone on auto mode.
"But they said-"

"But I'm saying I don't. Who do you want to believe?" He grinned playfully.

"You," I mumbled.

"Good, anything else?" He asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

I shook my head and tried not to look too happy. Drake, who had been restless for a while now, seemed to relax too. After all, we both had just found out that I wasn't going to get hurt.

"Sarah? Would you like to stay and... listen to our new song?"

In that moment, I could have kissed Adrian for saying that. I looked up at Drake, pulling a puppy face and he laughed out loud.

"For God's sake, Sarah. I'm not your dad!" He said, still smiling. "Stay if you want to."

"Okay." I turned to Adrian, who looked as excited as me, and added. "But I've no idea about music."

"Let me know if you need a ride." Drake added, as he stepped out.

"That's okay, I'll drop her back." Aaron said, winking at me. "Have a good day, Drake!"

"You, too. And thanks!"

With that, he was gone. Adrian closed the door behind him and asked me to take a seat. As I sat down, I began noticing the little details about the living room that I had missed the first time. There were more pictures on the wall, of Aaron's family, his graduation day, his childhood. There were a few pictures of Adrian as a kid, too, I noticed.

"Not many pictures of you here." I quipped, turning to Adrian.

"He's a private person, he keeps them all in his room," Aaron answered.

They both started speaking music language and I sat staring at them, everything sounding alien to my ears. It was when they started jamming that I began to relax a bit. Adrian was amazing with the guitar, the kind that makes you wish you'd learnt to play too. Aaron, though, was creating magic with his fingers. Every time his fingers pressed a key on the keyboard, I felt myself smiling broader.

I don't know for how long I sat there, smiling at nothing before his voice brought me to senses. "What are you smiling at?" He asked, teasingly.

"Hush! Just play." I mumbled and both of them burst into laughter.

"Bro, look at her! She looks high." Adrian said and they laughed again.

"Hey, Sarah, do you sing?" Aaron asked, all of a sudden.

"Yes," I said, "like a donkey."

"Ooh." Aaron took the guitar from Adrian and tuned it. "Remember the lyrics from the song, Day and Night?"

I nodded. I knew all the lyrics of all his songs.

"Sing for me." He said, and started playing.

As the sound hit my ears, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I listened to the notes for a long moment and started singing.

"You came to me when I needed love the most,
And you held on to me with all your might,
I don't know how you do what you do to me,
With just a smile, you make my day and night..."

Honestly, I couldn't believe my own voice. I managed to sound alright and not make a fool of myself. I was sure in that moment that I had dreamt it all. The entire day had been so surreal, I wouldn't have been surprised if I had woken up in my bed any moment.

"You're good! When you said you sing like a donkey, I had braced myself for the worst." Aaron said, grinning at me. "You know, you're not a donkey."

"Wow. Thanks!" I blushed despite my attempt at being sarcastic. "Now you sing for me. Please?"

"Sure! This is just for you, just made it up."

As he started singing, I began losing myself. Slowly, at first, then all at once.
