"I see you both have patched up. Good." Drake said, hiding his confusion.
"Drake, I'm so sorry. I've been such a bi-"
Drake slapped his hand on my mouth and glared at me, "Don't."
"Raemon told me you punched him and we both found it so funny, we started laughing. Then I couldn't stop laughing and he stopped me from falling to the ground. So we're friends now," I beamed at both of them.
"Huh. You're weird, Sarah," he muttered under his breath.
Raemon punched Drake's shoulder and smiled at him. "Bro, I've missed you so much."
"Please, I'm not Sarah. I don't forgive that easily," Drake said, pushing Raemon away.
I narrowed my eyes at him and hissed. "Drake, I'm doing this for you so you better stop being such an asshole."
"Exactly why I'm being one, Sarah. You don't have to forgive someone who cheated on you just because you feel bad for me. That's stupid."
He walked away without even looking back at me. Raemon cleared his throat, muttered another sorry and walked away. I shook my head, switched my books and started towards my Creative writing class. When nothing can elevate my mood, only writing always helps.
"Sarah, wait. Aaron wants to talk to you," I heard Adrian's voice and stopped.
When I turned, I was expecting Aaron on the phone, not Aaron himself standing before me. My eyes must've bulged out of my sockets, that's how shocked I was.
"Hey," Aaron smiled at me.
I was too stunned to talk, but I managed to smile back at him. Did I say writing was the only thing that could help me? Scratch that. Aaron could, too.
"Uh, Adrian asked me if I could pick him up today. First day of school was tiring, I guess." Aaron laughed, "so I thought I'd see you before leaving."
"Aaron, people recognise you here. I don't think it's a good idea. They'll start swarming in-"
And just like that the inevitable happened. At least ten juniors rushed to where we were standing and started thrusting their notebooks at Aaron.
"Guys! Stop it!" I tried my best to make my voice audible enough. "If the Principal Grande hears you, she'll be here and we'll all get detention."
"He's totally worth the trouble!"
"Who cares about her anyway."
"He's Adrian's brother. He'll visit frequently now!"
These were the kind if comments I heard, which made me angry. Not that I ever liked Principal Grande, but I at least didn't go around announcing my hatred for her.
"They look so cute together!" One of the juniors squealed, and that was when I realised that Aaron had put his arm around me and we were posing for the pictures, together.
"Of course, dummy! It's Sarah Buckley, she looks good with everyone," someone else replied.
If I were in any position to register the words or react to them, I would have. I'd have hugged the people who were saying these nice things about me. But I couldn't, because the arm he had wrapped around me had completely sucked the life out of me. I realised I was blushing and quickly kept it under check.
"Enough, guys. Go to your respective classes now. Seriously," I said, trying to sound angry but failing miserably.
The juniors having realised that they had crossed their line and gotten away with it, decided to oblige and started to scatter away. I turned to Aaron and smiled apologetically.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I tried to warn you, it's like living in a zoo," I laughed humorlessly.
"It was fun for me. I got to take pictures with you," he grinned at me. "The prom princess."
I groaned at him. Adrian, who had somehow skillfully dodged the circus, was standing in front of us with his phone in his hand.
"Can I just say how adorable you both look right now?" He winked at us.
"You already did, Ad. Thank you," Aaron laughed.
"Aaron, why don't you come with me. I'll show you around." I just wanted to show him off.
"Sarah," he said in a deadpan voice, "what about your classes?"
"I've been a good student for four years, I deserve a break," I pouted.
"What good student? You bunked third hour with me!" Adrian smirked but bit his tongue as soon as he realised he said that in front of his brother.
"Oh. So you've both skipped classes today. Great!"
"I'm a senior, I get to take advantage of my position," I shrugged.
"Go to class now. In less than five days I'll be seeing you again. Then you can have me all for yourself."
I knew what he meant by it but I wished so bad that he had meant what I wanted him to mean. Ignoring the butterflies in my stomach, I nodded, agreeing to attend my classes.
"Good. So I'll see you around," he hugged me.
I felt his arm muscles flex against my skin. He held me in his arms for a moment before letting me go. I had to remind myself to breath, once I was away from his arms. And that it was all supposed to be friendly, though only in his mind.
"Bye, Aaron. Be careful on your way out."
He laughed, "I'll just say your name if I find myself in any kind of trouble." He winked at me, turned away and walked out with Adrian.
The second bell went off, notifying us that lunch was over and it was time for us to start our classes. So I made my way through the hallway until I reached my Creative writing class, the only class I have in common with one of my friends. Tasha was seated in the second row, and my seat beside her was empty. She waved me over as soon as I entered the class.
"Sarah, Ms. Thomas just asked us to write a horror story with a romantic edge to it. Assignment of the hour. She'll return by the end of the hour to collect our works."
"This is gonna be fun," I grinned at her as we both pulled out our books and started working on our stories.
