"Yeah, kind of," I answered. "He asked me out."
"Wooooooooow!" Daphne shrieked. "That makes you even cooler!"
"No guy defines me, Duffy. I'm cool on my own," I said, smirking at Aaron.
"Wherever did she get this attitude from?" Adrian asked Aaron in a bemused tone.
"Drake and Sarah, when they're together as a team, are invincible," Dylan answered for him. "They're a hug pain in the-" he looked down at Daphne and stalled. "-in the neck."
"You can say ass in front of me, Dyl. I'm a big girl now," Daphne said, puffing out her cheeks.
"You're still a little girl," I narrowed my eyes at her, "you're not supposed to swear."
"She's a spoiled princess, isn't she?" Aaron asked, pulling Daphne in for a hug.
"Your princess?" Daphne asked quietly, her tone that of a wishful child.
"No, baby. My princess is already chosen," Aaron made a sad face. "But hey, there's Adrian!"
"Adrian is too much like Dylan, I can't see myself dating him," she said, like she knew what she was talking. "And anyway, princesses are boring. I don't wanna be a princess."
"What do you want to be, then?" Aaron asked, curious.
"A queen. I want to be the queen of the world and rule everyone."
"There's goes the future of this world," Drake said with an eye roll.
I laughed and scooted nearer to him. Laying my head on his shoulder, I closed my eyes. Drake began talking in hushed tones, telling me how his day had gone. And even though I had been with him most of the time, I listened without interjecting. I loved when he let me in on his plans, I loved when he shared his thoughts with me.
"And what do you think of my decision, Drake?" I ask slowly, not sure if he understood what I'm implying to.
But of course he understood. He's Drake, he understands everything.
"Honestly, I think you did the right thing. She was bad influence on you. And I'm sorry to be saying this to you, I know how much she means to you."
"She did. She still does mean a lot to me, Drake. That's what's worrying me."
He turned slowly, facing me. His face was breaking into a small smile.
"You're too good to be true, do you know that?"
"Nonsense!" I laughed.
"Really. When you went up to Brendan and talked to him so easily, like you'd done it so many times before, I was so proud. Emily, though, would have flipped at the sight of it."
"She has a lot to change, I know. But she's still my favourite girl at school, I wonder how bad that makes me," I voiced my thoughts.
"It doesn't make you bad. It just shows that even the worst kind of people have a tad bit of good side to them which only certain people can see," he ruffled my hair. "You're someone I want Daphne to grow up looking up to, you're so worth it."
I blushed. "Stop it, Drake! She's got an amazing brother like you, she'll grow up to be like you and that's enough greatness for a human being."
I heard someone clear their throat behind us and turned. All of them were standing behind us, watching us. Daphne spoke up.
"If you're both done flattering each other's asses off, get inside," she deadpanned. "And oh, I don't want to grow up like either of you, mind that."
