I stood mesmerized, watching him sing and play the piano together. His fingers were creating magic and his mouth was singing a fairy tale, and I was lost in them; I was lost in him. When they stepped on to the stage, half the crowd shouted their undying love for the guys. I beamed with pride as I looked on. I could see girls with all sorts of writings for Aaron. Someone wanted to marry him, someone wanted to have his babies. The most absurd one was of a girl who wanted to give him both her kidneys to have him look at her. I found it so funny I chuckled loudly, attracting weird looks my way.
Drake and I stood alongside each other, Drake smiling at me occasionally. Aaron and the band played a few new songs, a couple of ones everybody knew and then the sixth song was a sad number.
"I wonder who wrote this song?" The girl next to me asked her friend.
"Not Aaron, surely. Who in their right minds would hurt him?" The other girl replied and laughed.
I blushed for no reason. I realised that I had a lot of responsibility now, being Aaron's girlfriend. I'd have to make sure I never hurt him, or half a million fans would hunt me down. The thought made me giggle but this time I was careful to not attract any attention on to myself. Drake and I drank beer from the outside stand. I allowed myself a drink only because the cups had the band's name on it. I wanted to treasure the cup for a lifetime.
The concert went on, Aaron took a break and Adrian came over. I realised that Adrian had a better voice than Aaron, really, but I couldn't admit it to anyone. I was letting these thoughts keep me busy when I felt a hand wrap around my waist and looked up.
Aaron.
Aaron, Aaron, Aaron.
My eyes drank in the beauty of his eyes, slowly shifting and falling on to his lips. He leaned in ever so lightly and kissed me. I heard a few gasps but mostly we went unnoticed, the crowd busy ogling at the younger Mason boy.
"People can see us here, Aaron," I hissed at him, pretending to be worried.
"Let them," he said, not even trying to keep his voice low.
He kissed me a few more times, holding me closer to him all the time. We watched Adrian sing for a while, like proud parents, and then Aaron excused himself and jumped on to the stage. A few shocked fans loomed around, their eyes slipping past me, to see who it was that Aaron had come to see. I felt a pang of regret when I saw that I wasn't up to his fans' expectations but the feeling passed as soon as I saw him take over the microphone.
"Guys, everybody," he said.
The crowd roared, sending chills down my spine. His voice sounded so captivating, I wondered how people could find in themselves to respond to him like that.
"I have an announcement to make." He descended the steps and made his way towards the crowd. "There's this someone here, a very special one. And before we present our next song, the last one for today, we need to have that person on the stage."
He seemed to be taking his time reaching whoever he wanted to reach. For a moment there I thought he was talking about me, but he already knew where I was so it shouldn't have taken him this long to reach me. So I stood, half grumpy, waiting to see who this person was.
The girl beside me half shouted at her friend. "Must be some charity thing, some sick child probably. Aaron loves kids," she was saying. Her words made me want to punch her.
Then I saw him, grinning as he weaved his way and walked towards the person he wanted the world to see. He was walking towards a girl. Towards me.
"Guys, meet Sarah," he said, reaching me and taking my hand. "My girlfriend."
The crowd burst out into various kinds of exclamations. Some cheered for me, some were sad. Some even booed for me. I laughed.
