Twenty-one

The next morning I sit up in bed and rub my eyes. I'm going to die today, I think. These villains were so easily convinced of my loyalty, it's almost a shame I have to break it.

I look around my room, searching for a knife, a rock, or anything else I could use to later defend myself. The only thing I find is a comb, which I doubt will do any good against Gaston's strength, Malifencent's powers, or the Queen of Heart's soldiers.

Once I realize that the only thing I can depend on is my mind, I change into my clothes and wait for Lady Tremaine to call me into the dining room.

And you plan to wear this," she says, "while seducing Dastan into giving you the Fairy's book?"

I look disgracefully at my outfit.  "Hook said something about a dress?" I ask cluelessly.

"Yes, of course." She nods, her blue eyes enlarging. "Brizella, bring your gowns to me immediately, we cannot have our guest looking so sickly for the most important day of our lives."

The daughter looks at her mother like she must be kidding, but eventually she and her signature green and blue gown make their way outside the room. By the frown resting on her face I take it she is still not used to taking orders.

I cough. "So I'll be wearing one of her gowns?" I ask, thinking of the horrid dresses she and Anastasia wear in the Cinderella movies.

"If they fit you," she says. "My Brizella has quite the frame and I'm not sure if you have such the figure." she says bluntly.

I frown, gazing at my reflection in the mirror and giving a quick glance to the Evil Queen. Her expression is priceless, clearly having another opinion about Brizella. I laugh before I can stop myself.

Brizella comes stomping into the room with an armful of gowns and drops them at my feet. "Here," She says disgustedly.

I pick one up, bright and ugly with a hoop skirt that would make my butt like it should belong on another species. I crinkle my nose and hold it out to Lady Tremaine. "Are you serious?"  I cry.

Uh oh. The woman's face says it all, I have spoken out of place.

I look at Drizella and can literally hear her snotty voice saying, "Oh you're in trouble now, " But seeing her dress gives me some inspiration. "Dastan has seen Cinderella time and time again," I say, trying to recover from my mistake. "if I wear this, he would most definitely recognize it."

The Evil Queen nods in agreement. Turning towards Tramaine she says, "We cannot afford to abort this mission because of a dress. Perhaps a more modern gown would do."

I smile at the Queen. Who knew we'd have anything in common? Turns out fashion is one of them.

After "luncheon", as they call it, they send me outside the hideout to shop for a gown.

Malificent approaches me, "If for any reason you decide to run," she says, "remember: you may not be able to see us, but we are there." Her green claw-like fingers pat my head. "Have fun darling."

I shiver and put on my best smile. At least I can get some much needed fresh air.

After searching Downtown Disney ten times over I decide to risk taking a bus to the Animal Kingdom. I remember picking out a nice looking dress while shopping with Dastan that he had really liked. If any villain approaches me, I'll just tell them the honest truth. I'm not trying to run away, I just happen to think that this dress is the only thing that stands between me and one Cruella's fur coats. Let me assure you; I ain't wearing no dalmatian puppies.
