Dane turned around to look at me, as we picked up different foods in the supermarket isle for the trip to see Anake, who apparently lives as a hermit in the Rosewood Forrest.

"Why did you want to pair up with me? Won't Zal and Ry kill each other?" I raised an eyebrow at Dane calling Ryker by his nickname. When did these two bond? I grabbed a can of corn and put it in the cart before I answered, "Because stopping the next great war is kinda important. Can you run back and get some bread?"

Dane smirked, clearly pleased with himself before speeding off into the opposite direction to pick up what I forgot. The more I got to know Dane, the more I began to see him as one of us. Which can be dangerous if I see him as an immortal.

The dark haired boy quickly ran back, sliding on his sneakers as he came to an abrupt stop by the cart with a loaf of bread and dropped it in the cart, "How long do you think we have until Zal does something drastic?"

I shook my head sadly, "You never really can predict those things."

We walked around until we found the check out line, which seemed to be flowing with middle aged women and their toddlers. I let out an annoyed groan as we found the shortest line which had two more people waiting in front of me. The woman I was behind glanced back at Dane and I, a small smile on her face as she met my eyes, "Is he your son?"

I looked down at Dane who cocked his head up to look at me. We both turned our attention back to the woman, shaking my head, I responded, "Um, no he isn't."

The woman narrowed her eyes, but glanced back to see that it was her turn to pay the cashier. Dane and I took this chance to put up our stuff, while we exchanged odd looks about the question. I never really thought that the nine year old standing next to me would look similar to me, but anyone will say that if you look old enough and the kid with you looks young enough.

Dane and I were still unloading the groceries when the cashier asked as my back was turned to her, "I sure hope he's not."

At recognizing the voice, I whirled around to see the face of the most angelic woman, her creamy skin was the same as I remembered, and her eyes remained the same as before, like a clear lake after a storm.

"Elena," I caught my breath, not knowing what exactly to say. I was at a loss for words as I stared at her. Dane glanced up to me, then to Elena, putting two and two together. But he didn't say anything, like I had hoped he would.

Elena pressed her lips together before saying, "I'm going to need my money back someday. Med school isn't the cheapest thing for me right now."

I felt like mentally smacking myself, right, she helped us out...no she helped Zal out. Elena was very fond of Azalia, me? Not so much.

"Right, I'm sorry. Yes, I'll pay back every penny. Thanks for letting us borrow some. You really helped us out." The words seemed to be falling out of my mouth, and I didn't know if there would be any stopping myself.

She nodded her head slightly before drawing her eyes towards the kid standing next to me, only the top of his head was visible from the high counter, "So who is this?"

"Um-" I started out, but Dane interrupted me, holding his hand up below the counter so Elena couldn't see. His eyes trained on her face, "I'm Dane. Kai never told me he knew someone as pretty as you."

Elena let out a soft laugh, "It's nice to meet you, Dane. I'm Elena."

Dane seemed satsificed that he was able to Elena laugh, he puffed out his chest, giving me a side glance as if challenging me.

The brunette looked over to me, her hands reached out to grab the groceries that Dane and I had set on the convener belt, scanning them as she kept eye contact, "Where's Zalia?"
