joshua: happy birthday
mia: thanks.
joshua: have you got any presents yet
mia: yeah, some.
joshua: what did james buy you?
mia: a bracelet.
joshua: is it nice
mia: it's pretty, yeah.
joshua sighs, remembering the presents he used to buy mia. one year, he bought her the biggest bunch of flowers he could find, a basket full of her favourite chocolate bar, some of her favourite band's cds and cinema tickets to see the sequel of her favourite ever film. he worked extra hours at the convenience store for a month beforehand so he could afford all of the presents.
joshua: if i knew your new address i would have sent you a present
mia: i haven't moved house. anyway, you don't need to buy me anything.
joshua: is james taking you anywhere nice?
mia: no, he's busy.
joshua: he should have made time for you
mia: he's busy, joshua.
joshua: doing what
joshua: what could be more important than his girlfriends birthday
mia switches off her phone and sighs, knowing that he's right. she loves james but it's her birthday. she wishes he just made time for her for this one day.
joshua: it has nothing to do with me
joshua: i'm sorry
joshua: enjoy the rest of your birthday
