+epilogue

29th december, 2015

after spending christmas with his relatives and almost every day with mia, it was time for joshua to return home to korea. for the month he was there, the two were inseparable, just like they used to be. it was weird, actually, how they acted as if they hadn't been apart for three years.

but joshua's life was in korea, and as badly as he wanted to stay, he had to go. they didn't stop messaging each other, though, they never lost contact.

on the date of december 29th, joshua received a message he didn't quite expect.

mia: i have news...

mia: i'm pregnant.

a few weeks beforehand, mia had dragged joshua to a party being held by a college friend. to say they both drunk a lot would be the understatement of the century. when they woke up in a bed which wasn't theirs, unclothed and confused, they both put the puzzle pieces together. it wasn't their first time doing it together, but it was still weird for them both.

and now, as joshua stares at his still-cracked phone in disbelief, hundreds of thoughts run through his mind.

joshua: is it mine?

mia: of course it is wtf.

18th january, 2016

joshua steps off the plane, a relieved but nervous sigh escaping his lips. it's only been a few weeks since he last saw mia but he's a thousand times more nervous.

when joshua found out he had made mia pregnant, he immediately told his mom and asked her for advice. she bought him a oneway plane ticket to la and told him he needed to be there for mia and the baby.

he knew he was going to miss his mom but a few days later, she told him that she was planning to permanently move to california too, to be with her family. everything seemed to be working out for him.

"hello, mia." joshua smiles once he sees the familiar, short girl waiting for him by the luggage-collection area.

she's wearing a simple shirt which shows the slightest sign of a bump. anyone would pass it off as being a bloated stomach but joshua knows mia inside and out, and it's definitely not the normal shape of her.

"joshua." she smiles, relieved to see him.

and just like the last time, they hug for what feels like years.

5th september, 2016

"just one more push," the nurse encourages. "he's almost here."

mia tries her very hardest to push, her hand practically cutting off the circulation of joshua's. she screams one last agonising time and relief fills through her, shortly followed by a weak cry from their baby.

after cutting the umbilical cord, the nurse hands her baby to her gently. mia takes him in her arms, holding him close to her chest. she examines his cute, petite features and immediately falls in love.

"he's so beautiful." she whispers and looks up, seeing her tearful boyfriend standing over them.

"he is," he agrees before leaning foreword and kissing mia's forehead. "you did fantastic."

"do you want to hold him?" mia asks and he nods immediately.

joshua carefully lifts up the tiny baby and holds his head using his hand which is practically twice the size. he leans down and kisses his little nose, his own tears falling softly onto his son's soft skin.

"welcome to the world, little one." he whispers with adoration in his eyes.

he glances at mia who looks both exhausted but beautiful, and then back to his new baby boy. and he can't help but think: i am the luckiest man in the world right now.
